Aussie born Hollywood costume designer Orry George Kelly, aka Orry-Kelly, may be best known for Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress from Some Like It Hot – yes, the one that blows upward! Here, Aussie director Gillian Armstrong revisits his life, from birth in New South Wales to start in New York to Hollywood studios. Armstrong mixes up archival material, interviews with actors like Angela Lansbury and Jane Fonda and fellow designers, and fantastical reenactments. Parched

Set in rural Gujarat, India, director Leena Yadav’s drama follows four women – Rani, a widow, teenage Janaki, Bijli, an exotic dancer, and spunky abused wife Lajjo – as they simultaneously begin to question their paternal society and place in it. Can these ladies come together one night and unleash the girl power within and tell the men what they want, what they really really want?

 

Hitchcock/Truffaut

Famously, and as documented in a book of the same title, directors Alfred Hitchcock and Francois Truffaut met in 1962 for over a week to discuss cinema. This documentary is a fusion of those talks and their respective techniques and works, including iconic titles like The Birds and 400 Blows, plus entertaining and insightful commentary from the many generations of filmmakers to follow, including David Fincher and Wes Anderson. A cinephiles’ delight, guaranteed to whet your appetite for a retrospective binge watch. Premiering on HBO!
