Kyle Wood, an openly gay full-time volunteer for Republican House candidate Chad Lee from Wisconsin, claimed he was attacked in his home on the basis of his sexuality and political beliefs.
According to The Daily Caller, Wood’s car was graffitied last week with “house trained republican faggot,” “traitor” and “ur like a jew 4 hitler,” in reference to his support for Lee, as opposed to gay Democratic candidate, Mark Pocan. Lee and Pocan are competing for (also openly gay Democrat) Tammy Baldwin’s recently vacated seat in the House as she pursues her run for Senate.
Wood addressed the vandalism on his Facebook account in an open letter:
“If you understand either freedom or me at all, you would [know] that this will only make me work harder … You can think whatever you like about me, but I will not be bullied into voting for a gay man simply because I am gay.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Then, on Wednesday morning, Wood was physically assaulted.
“I was getting ready for work and there was a knock at the door,” Wood told The DC. “I opened it, and a guy wrapped a ligature around my neck, slammed my head into the doorway, and smashed my face into a mirror, telling me ‘You should have kept your [f*******] mouth shut.’”
Jimmy LaSalvia, co-founder of gay conservative group GOProud, called the attack “hate and vitriol directed towards a gay conservative from gay liberals.”
After the beating, Wood reiterated his prior sentiments, telling The DC, “I will not be bullied, intimidated or threatened into abandoning my moral values.”
All right, ignoring LaSalvia’s comments (as everyone should do to avoid completely going insane) do you think this was an instance of gay-on-gay bashing brought on by the increasingly bitter divide among “liberals” and “conservatives”? And if so, is Harvey Milk turning over in his grave right now?

Nutcases breeding lies. Although this doesn’t surprise me, sadly this is the level the right has too stoop to get sympathy and deflect from their hatred of America and every single American.
Do they have any proof at all?, because I smell bullshit from here in the UK. Sounds like something Avenger or BJ would come up with.
Bearing in mind calling someone out over social networking is neither intimidation or bullying and there was no direct threats or implied ones.
jkb
If this is true, it is shameful. As gay Republicans are indifferent to the offenses
enabled by Republicanism, I am indifferent. In other words, I neither condone nor care.
Daayyummmboi
I’m sorry. I’m not buying it. I have a hard time believing this story line. He may indeed have gotten his butt kicked in his own home, but I seriously doubt “The Why” in this story. People don’t generally take the time to be courteous and nicely knock at the front door like an Avon lady before kicking your ass. There is more to this.
Thomas4143
I think we have to be cautious of any news story that comes from WND. That particular “news” outlet is known to be unreliable in the sense that they publish a lot of right wing nonsense.

IF this is true – it’s deplorable on so many levels. We have lost the ability to agree to disagree. Yes, gay republicans who support anti-gay candidates are “working for the enemy” and are like blacks working for candidates who will bring back segregation and Jim Crow laws, but an attack like this is not discourse. IF these were gays bashing another gay simply for his political stance, well, that does go too far. He has the right to be misguided, just like we have the right to support and get our candidates in office. Just vote people, just vote – that is how we make our voices heard. Not bashing each other either verbally or physically.
Luci
I doubt that this is true. Gay republicans have a history of fabricating stuff like this. Like their homophobic masters, they love playing the victim card.
But working for people who further homophobia that beats, kills, and causes suicides, is enough to get no sympathy from me; Even if it were true.
randalaw
Has anyone out there ever heard of a “liberal” going to such extremes of physical violence? It is certainly possible but truly unlikely based on my, admittedly rather limited, reading. Maybe a BD/SM session gone terribly awry?
Shannon1981
Not buying it. This is just a right wing hoax. Just wait- it will come out that he injured himself.
Little-Kiwi
Don’t forget the crazy lady 4 years ago who carved the backward-B into her own face and blamed “Black Obama Supporters”
Dont’ forget get LaSalvia himself entirely fabricated a story about being “attacked by a group of black youths”
or that ugly gay Republican from A-List Dallas who fabricated TWO “liberals-attacked-me” stories.
the details on this so far? attack, in the home, through an unlocked door. during a time in an area with many college students. with no witnesses. and no neighbours heard anything. because the man apparently didn’t scream for help at all, nor did his violent attack cause much noise, apparently.
there’s a reason most mainstream media is not running this story, yet. same reason legit media didn’t run the “woman has a B carved into her face” story…..
Notice his own comments are not a cry for civility. They’re “I’m a gay conservative victim of liberals!” nonsense.
“morals”?
Why not make police reports earlier? Why FACEBOOK stats? Because you want attention.
Are there photos of the car? Truly no witnesses to this attack, which would have been AUDIBLE, during a busy time for both the 9-5 crowd and students getting to class?
I call this guy’s bluff.
BJ McFrisky
For all of you doubters, simply look at the responses to any of my previous comments on different stories. If you’re gay and don’t tow the liberal line, your own will attack you, and not in a nice way. I know this first-hand. And judging by the comments in response to this story, the gay mafia is alive and well and hating as forcefully as ever. Had this been a gay liberal claiming to have been attacked by conservatives, none of you would doubt it for a second—your only response would be for blood.
I’m beginning to believe Queerty isn’t so much a gay blog as a political one, being as it posts these stories seemingly only to allow their readers to vent their hatred toward those they perceive as the “enemy.”
Mr. Enemabag Jones
He probably got beat up trying to pick up a straight guy in a public bathroom. That’s what gay conservatives do.
Cam
So let me see if I’m clear.
1. This story is very similar to the gay republican from A List Dallas’s story that turned out to be false.
2. No articles about NOM funding anti-gay ballots but an article about a guy claiming that “Gay Liberals” attacked him.
3. Interesting that he didn’t call the police, but called GOProud, which is not a gay group as most of it’s board are not gay but was set up to give the GOP cover on anti-gay bigotry.
Funny, if I’m assaulted, GOPround would not be the first people I would call. Nice of Queerty though to use their press release as a story rather than reporting on the millions of dollars flooding into gay marriage ballots from groups like NOM.
Little-Kiwi
BJ, like most gay conservatives you’re a lying troll who cannot put a face and name to your comments because, well, you’re a lying troll.
keep coming here every day to spew anger towards other gays and liberals. won’t change the fact that you have capers for testes and will never be man enough to stand up to be counted 😀
Little-Kiwi
curious: what IS “towing the liberal line”?
Does that mean, you know, having balls and a spine and refusing to be a pu**y-whipped little coward who says and does whatever Republican Mommy and Daddy say?
Cam
@BJ McFrisky:
BJ, I have asked you multiple times.
Please let me know your thoughts on Romney sending each Senator a letter opposing gay marriage and testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee in favor of an anti-gay amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Please let me know your thoughts on Romney saying that gay couples having hospital visitation was a privilage not a right.
Please let me know your thoughts on Paul Ryan appearing before anti-gay groups and stating that they would continue to fight against gay rights.
Since you continually use the phrase “Towing the liberal line” I just wanted to point out what not towing that line entailed.
You have avoided answering these questions multiple times, usually calling me a name or trying to say something about Obama or trying to go off on some other tangent. But if your position of supporting Romney is valid you should have no problem discussing and defending these actions.
Little-Kiwi
hey Cam, rather than ask him for explanations try asking him for proof 😉
Little-Kiwi
I don’t know why Gay Republicans get so upset about “hatred from gay Liberals” anyway.
They seem totally fine with the hatred they get from their own family members and political affiliates…
Dumdum
I do not condone violence of any kind. However this looks more likely to be Auto-Erotic asphyxiation gone awry.
MikeE
ROFLMAO @ “tow the line”
It’s “toe the line”, as in, stand at attention, with your toes touching an imaginary line with everyone else in your platoon. It means to stand with the troops and not stick out.
It would seem that conservatism also comes with illiteracy already built-in.
BJ McFrisky
@Cam: I’ll have to see proof of your claims before I can comment on them, Cam. Provide me a link showing Romney and/or Ryan explicitly stating their opposition to homosexuals. If I see and hear that with my own eyes and ears (as opposed to taking someone’s word for it), then I’ll respond. But don’t give me the line “They’re against gay marriage, therefore they’re homophobic” because that’s just a cop-out. You claim they have made specific threats against us—so show me. Then we can discuss. I’m all ears.
Dumdum
@BJ McFrisky: Anyone against marriage equality IS ANTI-GAY.
continuum
I’m not believing a word of this until we see an actual copy of the police report. (He did file a complaint, no???)
Eddy
This does not have the ring of truth to it. There are loads of log cabin republicans. This is a cheap publicity stunt.
Bob LaBlah
@BJ McFrisky: I am “assuming” that the person in the picture is the “victim” and here is my assesment: THAT PICTURE IS STAGED. HE LOOKS NEITHER INJURED NOR UNCONSIOUS. I see an expression of “god, please let this work” written everywhere on her face.
It seems like yesterday morning (08) that a woman in Texas, three days or four days before the election, claimed Obama supporters attacked her and wrote on her face. It turns out the reason the police did not investigate further was because they knew from the beginnging she was lying. The same goes for this little Chris Crocker wannabe (“leave Brittany alone”).
I was in a bar on 13th street in Philadelphia and DID witness a young idiot get her face slapped and SEVERAL beers poured over her head when “she” started screaming at a black friend of mine about the “virtues” of George Bush over Bill Clinton. The bouncer and several very burly white guys ALL sat back and laughed at her just deserts. These people (young, mostly white gay men though a few tokens whom I deeply suspect are there more for the “snow” than the politics)know they don’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to defending the views of their masters so they fabricate and start screaming at the top of their lungs to get attention.
As I said, this picture alone shows how full of shit these people will go. Hopefully your views don’t support this type of idiocy. Or do they?
The average neo-con HAS NEVER had a schoolyard fight and in my opinion I think gay men who tow the line of the neo-cons fit this category perfectly. There motto is lets sit back and bash those who can’t defend themselves and run to the bible when it suits our agenda. Good luck to ALL of you if Romney wins. He wont care who smells his farts once in office and I do hope YOU will be the first one to get a wiff.

You know I’ve said tons of times now that BJ [and Avenger] are paid to post on LGBT forums and blogs by a group based in South Carolina. They co-ordinate over IRC, we’ve been watching them for years. There are 8 of them now [there was 9, but wonderfully one of them passed on recently].
Also the reason Queerty doesn’t post anything Anti-mormon is they are paid by Outbrain.
BJ McFrisky
@2eo: You, my friend, are paranoid to the point of being certifiable. Seriously. Your conspiracy theories would be amusing if you weren’t so adamant about them being factual, but when you accuse Queerty of being in on one in favor of making Romney look good, well, then you’ve strayed into the territory of the seriously mentally unhinged and you should seek professional assistance.
Seriously.

for the Republican apologists who need to ignore the truth 😉
ignore McFrisky. he’s still angry that the Black Liberal President supports the LGBT Community and his own white conservative parents don’t.
textbook right-wing closeted coward.
GreenmanTN
Call me when someone is actually arrested for the crime or there is compelling evidence the attack really happened. Remember the McCain volunteer who scratched a backward (because she was looking in the mirror when she did it) “B” on her face and claimed an Obama supporter attacked her?
If someone goes to the trouble to wrap a (what appears to be) wire ligature around your neck, it’s unlikely you’d escape without more to show for it than a couple of very neat lines around your neck. Didn’t he struggle? Because if he had there would be far more damage.
Scooteroo
No police report has been filed! Story= bullshit
MK Ultra
To do that to yourself you have to be pretty mentally unstable. Let’s be honest here (unlike the gay republican), to even entertain the idea this is genuine is to cast ourselves as fools. Criminal charges need to be laid against him but more importantly he needs a psychiatric evaluation and perhaps extended treatment in a psych ward.
MK Ultra
Opps no police report filed. I guess you can.t charge him but pyschiatric help is definitely a must
Alan down in Florida
I’m confused – how did the attacker know where to find the (allegedly) attacked dude or, previously, his vandalized vehicle? How did the attackee know the attacker was gay – his story says that the attacker only said “You should have kept your f***ing mouth shut? Next question – if your car has already been vandalized in a seemingly hate crime why are you opening your front door to a stranger? Finally how did the alleged attacker wrap a ligature around your neck when you were face to face at the front door. Logically you would have to have turned your back on him for him to do that and have the leverage to slam you around. And if he did turn his back on him the likelihood is that he knew his attacker.
Sadly, the dude making the claim is an activist queer whose life brought him to the attention of a hater. Percentages would say that if the attack took place at all it is likely to have been done by a homophobic straight man as opposed to another gay man who disagreed with his politics.
Or maybe I just watch too much Law & Order: SVU.
gattsuru
I’ll note that Harvey Milk was assassinated by a disgruntled ex-government worker who had invited Milk to his child’s baptism and helped peddle influence for Mr. Harvey Milk, then split not over the murderer’s political positions on gay rights, but over internal city financial issues and pay disparities — hence why the murderer targeted three other victims (and killed one). The assertion in Milk that the murderer was a closeted gay man is unsupported by any evidence. Ie, Milk’s assassination has rather little to do with the topic.
@Scooteroo: Most police reports don’t identify victims, but this looks to match the surrounding details. Obviously, there’s no way to prove that the police reports was filed for legitimate reasons, but that’s a separate matter from assuming the story to be bull based on not performing a simple search. Faked hate crimes happen — nor are they limited based on gay politics, political affiliation, or even political interest — but there are rather strong issues with presuming crimes to be faked without reasonable evidence.
@Alan down in Florida: It’s trivial to find anyone you’ve got a first and last name and city of residence for, which includes nearly every public figure in the United States. That’s how I found the police report above, after all. At least from the WND and other reports, it’s LaSalvia that’s said the attacker was likely gay, not the alleged victim (Kyle Wood), while the alleged victim only said that he believed he was attacked for not voting for a gay Democrat.
If Mr. Wood were a randomly selected gay man, your breakdown of statistics would be at least somewhat reasonable, but there’s a rather nontrivial difference from the set of all gay men, and the set of gay men working as Republican campaign workers.
Aidan8
@BJ McFrisky: Right, BJ… because you’re posts are so completely factual and on-point. Give us a break. You NEVER post directly to the issue at hand. You NEVER respond to criticism. You NEVER respond with facts. Yes, this site is overwhelmingly liberal/progressive. But as one of the few conservatives, you should at least have the balls to use facts, form solid arguments, and respond directly to criticism. You have ZERO credibility. Zero.
BradT
Don’t believe it for even a second.
BJ McFrisky
@Aidan8: If you read 2eo’s comment, you’ll understand why I labeled him paranoid. It’s, like, right there for everyone to see, no holds barred. The man/woman/whatever needs help. (and FYI, the word “you’re” is a contraction meaning “you are,” whereas “your” is the possessive I believe you were looking for when you commented “you’re posts are so . . . “)
Aidan8
@BJ McFrisky: Oh you know us crazy liberals… with our typos…. just get so excited to chat with you… 😉
Little-Kiwi
his expression in that pic is as phoney and forced as his family’s tolerance of him.
it’s just funny that anti-liberal republican homosexuals never get gaybashed. they get conservative-bashed. or so they claim. charges are never filed and convictions never happen.
tends to happen when you make stuff up.
Stache99
Ah this reminds me of a certain conservative “A list” of Dallas cast member who had a rock thrown in his window but didn’t have any record of calling the police. I believe Go Shame came to his defense too.
Little-Kiwi
Stache, exactly. GOProud dont’ have the love and support of their families nor political affiliates, and so they need to make up stories like this in order to elicit pithy sympathy. “look, i’m not like those other gays! i hate them too! they’re mean to me!”
oh grow some balls you wimps.
Aidan8
@Stache99: GOShame…. lol Like that. There’s always GOPrude.
Cee
A guy wrapped a “Ligature” around his neck. What is this? Law and Order Special Victims Unit?
Eric
This is coming from the Daily Caller. This is a site with such abhorrent conservative bias.
In fact, in the middle of the articles there’s a link saying, “OPINION: Why gay Americans, and those who care about gay Americans, should vote for Mitt Romney”
It gets worse; right next to this article, there’s Ann Coulter’s face with ,”Why don’t white liberals vote for black politicians?” written right underneath.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this story is fabricated. It’s at least heavily exaggerated and twisted. The whole site is disgusting, and can’t be trusted.
goofyjoemoore
@BJ McFrisky: Oh BJ…it’s not everyone else’s job to do the research for you. And if you haven’t seen or heard of these claims before you’re either A) somehow living with your head in the sand or B) Only watching Fox and reading WND.
Seriously…these questions he asked you were simple, and easily google-able (is that a word?)
Once again, just like someone pointed out above, you avoid answering the question which leads me to call BS on you and your apparent views on…well…anything.
Little-Kiwi
it’s the funny yet sad reality – gay republicans lie in “real life” and lie as cowardly anonymous trolls on internet messageboards.
this story is as fake as press-on nails.

Well, it turns out this story is completely false:
