Scissor Sisters, âOnly the Horsesâ
The Scissor Sisters new album, Magic Hour, doesnât drop until May 28, but the video for the new single, âOnly the Horsesââwell, the lyric video, anywayâhas already trotted onto the Internet. (It follows âShady Love,â which leaked back in January with Azealia Banks doing guest vocals.) âHorsesâ sees SS front man Jake Shears teaming up on production duties with Calvin Harris, best known as the mastermind behind Rihannaâs âWe Found Love.â âIâve known Calvin for quite a whileâwe met originally making some music with Kylie for the Aphrodite,â Shears said on BBC Radio 1. With its synth-pop hooks and broad, almost vague lyrics, we can see the connection to both Kylie and RiRi.
Bonnie Raitt, âRight Down the Lineâ
Out director Steve âFlipâ Lippman helmed the video for Bonnie Raittâs new reggae-infused cover of âRight Down the Line,â so itâs none too surprising the clip features both gay and straight couples at San Franciscoâs now-defunct New Mission Theater. Written by the late Gerry Rafferty, âLineâ is a song about long-term love and devotion and is as timeless and soulful as Raitt herself. If you like it, Raittâs new album, Slipstream, is out now.
The Gossip, âPerfect Worldâ
Beth Ditto looks downright ethereal in the video for âPerfect World,â the bandâs first single off the appropriately religious sounding A Joyful Noise. We already worshipped Beth and her boys, so you know weâre prostrating ourselves before this 80s-era power ballad. Hallelujah!
Lune, âLet Go (Neon Revamp)â
Sometimes itâs worth not fast-forwarding through the commercials: This ad for the Swedish jeans company Only incorporates a remix of the hit track âLet Goâ from Swedish House Mafia discovery Lune, a.k.a LinnĂ©a Martinsson. Scandi wunderkinds Adrian Lux and Carl-Michael Herlöfsson produced the original version.
How about we take this to the next level?

Damn, the Scissor Sisters are fantastic once more!

Beth’s boys? That drummer’s name is Hannah Billie, and she’s most certainly not a boy…

SS and Gossip’s new music is too much of a departure of why I became a fan of both of theirs in the first place. They just sound like studio synth music now and real instruments are a thing of the past.
