Ohhh, I totally get why Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers — collectively, Peter, Paul & Mary — have such a problem with the National Organization for Marriage using their recording of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” at their rallies: NOM does not support three-way bisexual marriage either.

If we could get Peter Paul& Mary collectively to bitchslap NOM, The Gays most certainly would have the frightwing lunatic God fearin’ loony toons to start collectively being very ascared of the Gays……….Considerin’ Mary Travers died in 2009 :p ……..

Come on Plays Well, you’re not playing well with other today. The link posts a copy of the letter issued under the bands letterhead of Peter, Paul and Mary, yet it is signed by Peter and Paul, alas Mary is dead.
And Queerty, you too being quite snarky!
Peter, Paul & Mary made the Anti-Viet Nam War protesting and the Free Speech Movement accessible to their younger generation and older generations through the power of their music. While other voiced the angst of the movements, that voice was geared to the then “In” generation. But Peter, Paul & Mary had the rest of us (I’m in the immediate younger generation and my parents in the older) signing along learning that what was going on was morally wrong and that all American were being smeared by the war efforts and the attempts to suppress anti-government protest.
Their words in their letter speak for themselves. And those of us who listened to interviews of the band and/or read about them and their efforts, we know that Mary too would readily, more likely even more emphatically, trashed NOM’s use of one the of the well known records from the 1960’s movement.
Queerty, can’t you sometimes just thank those who have our backs WITHOUT RESORTING TO INSIPID BELITTLING?

I, for one, will ALWAYS carry a part of Little Jackie Paper in my heart knowing that standing up for what is right is always right. Thanks to Peter and Paul, peace to Mary.

Let me understand this: Some ancient white folksingers (who have never done any harm to the GLBT cause that I know of), send a cease-and-desist to NOM and Queerty makes fun of them? How odd and strikingly snark-for-snark’s-sake. How about a pleasant “why, thank you, ancient folksingers” and THEN lay on the snark?
Dave
Oddly enough, given the rather flamboyant imbroglios of many of their contemporary groups, there’s no indication that anyone in PP&M ever had any kind of romantic involvement with anyone else in the group.
Pete Yarrow and Paul Stookey have each been happily married to women who are not Mary for decades, while Mary Travers was married four times to guys who were neither Peter nor Paul.
Also, if you’re bent on being snarky about somebody doing something nice for the gays (unprompted, even), then it’s three-way bisexual zombie marriage, for the reason Plays Well mentions above.

I didn’t know all three of them were still alive.
God bless them. Sincerely.

I did not find it either snarky or belittling. I don’t know the writer but it was hardly a mean spirited piece, a bit of information, a bit of humor, take it or leave it.

Another Dave – read it again. It sounds like PPM are only self interested, which is a back handed compliment. It is not the worst thing one could say, but how about just a thank you instead? (Can the snippy humor).
