Groundbreaker Award

Groundbreaker Award Dylan Mulvaney Photo by Broderick Baumann

In March 2022, actress and comedian Dylan Mulvaney came out to the world as trans via TikTok and Instagram. Twenty-four hours later, she posted a follow-up video detailing “Day 1 of being a girl,” taking viewers through her highs and lows with warmth and humor. Then the posts kept coming, day after day… Nearly an entire year later, and Mulvaney’s daily updates have blossomed into a project called “Days Of Girlhood,” in which she’s given her followers (now over 10 million on TikTok alone) a remarkably honest and honestly remarkable look at her transition journey.

Along the way, Mulvaney has stepped into her power as an activist, too, and was even invited to the White House to speak with President Biden about the need for gender-affirming care. As her platform continues to grow, she’s encountered some that have been less than supportive of her journey and her message, but Mulvaney takes it all in stride, continuing to educate, while showing her willingness to learn each day, with an open heart and an open mind.

Without a doubt, Mulvaney’s vulnerability and positivity have made her an important voice for her generation, especially for the LGBTQ+ community at a time of great uncertainty. As her “Days Of Girlhood” continue on, we count ourselves as lucky to be able to follow along with Mulvaney, every step of the way.

Dylan Mulvaney will accept the Groundbreaker Award at the 11th annual Queerties Award Reception on February 28th, 2023 in Los Angeles.  The awards will be streamed in early March.
