As predicted, the Rhode Island House Judiciary Committee voted 11-0 to advance HB5015, a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in the state.
According to Marriage Equality Rhode Island, this marks the first time a marriage-equality bill has advanced passed committee.
The next step is for the measure to pass a general vote on the House floor, expected to happen on Thursday. Then it’s off to the state Senate, where the job of getting it approved is expected to be quite tougher.
