Apropos of, I’m not sure what, Timothy Shriver is on a tear! After an excellent Real Time With Bill Maher segment, the Special Olympics chairman (and, yes, nephew of JFK) brings his campaign against using the word “retard/retarded” to The Colbert Report. Shriver wants folks to start describing others as “people with,” as in “people with developmental disabilities” (or maybe even “people with homosexual urges”). Colbert, ever the humanitarian, wants to do his part, so he recorded an ad hoc PSA: Kids, saying “retarded” is gay.

This is SO OLD. Seriously, that episode aired almost two weeks ago.

As a believer in the context of the use of a word and not just the word now, I think Stephen is joking and I found it funny.

I’m no more a “person with autism” as my mom is a “person with femaleness,” which is often much worse. I’m autistic.

I love Stephen Colbert. In a roundabout way (since he’s playing a “conservative” commentator) he has one of the the most gay positive shows on TV. He’s always pointing out the idiocy of Republican, Right Wing, and Religious attitudes toward gays, despite his being (apparently for real) a faithful Catholic who teaches Sunday school.
Plus there was all that kissing he did with Paul Dinello on “Strangers With Candy”! đ

Colbert sucks. I was dragged to his show by a neighbor once and was so disgusted with every step from beginning to end.
