“My peers, my teammates, my opponents — they don’t have a problem with it. They love me as a person. I think it has more to do with the parents and coaches — they don’t want to understand. The fear of the unknown and not being able to educate themselves. I’ve always wanted to be an advocate and have a voice in the trans community and be able to stick up for their rights and what they do. And also do what I want to do.”Mack Beggs to Teen Vogue, when asked if his peers thought it was a big deal that he was competing with the girls, or if it has been made more controversial by adults.

It’s people’s attitudes and prejudice that is unfair. There’s nothing unfair about that teenage boy. He petitioned the education authorities and he wanted to compete against other 110 pound guys, and the state said no. Parents and other students yelled and screamed and booed at this courageous and brave high school student at every meet, and he’s been bullied beyond belief, His fortitude and drive is amazing. I just wrote about him and this high profile British newspaper columnist who bullied the kid and she said nasty things to her 600K followers on twitter. He responded with dignity and grace and a is a hero.

JamJewel: MTF trans athletes aren’t faced with what issue? There are still biological differences between trans men and women, having to do with testosterone and chromosomes. Certainly the issue was faced by runner Caster Semenya, a biological hermaphrodite who identifies as female. These issues are not as simple as people would like to think, especially when the issue is athletics.
