Living in West Hollywood, we’re big fans of Troy Comics, which sends up the ridiculous, faggy and sometimes heartwarming world of Boystown. We love Troy Comics creator Michael all the more today for coming up with this spot on editorial cartoon that sums up how we feel about Barack Obama‘s choice to have Rev. Rick Warren officiate his inauguration. Full view after the jump.

it’s okay.

All right, I think we got our point across. I feel what we need to do now is let this go and see if Obama brings the change he has been promising? I really have hope in Obama and I do believe he is a good man… I think he really wants to bring us all together and by inviting Rick Warren attempted to do just that. but by doing so he opened a wound in us that brought all the hurt to the surface. A President sets the tone for the nation, Obama see’s that we really do need to come together as a nation. I do trust he will help us in finding greater uquality but this is a battle and we still have a huge fight ahead of us! We are moving forward towards equal rights and we are getting there but I do think that our particular battle isn’t the most pressing for the nation. America is in deep shit and its only getting deeper! We need to find common ground to get out of it. Give our President elect a chance because at least we have his ear, BUSH WOULD JUST ASSUME GAG US then listen to what we had to say… GIVE OBAMA A CHANCE BEFORE YOU JUDGE HIM…
Bob
Why should we let this go? The man has so far proven he’s nothing more than a politician cut from the same self-serving cloth as all the others. He fucks us over before he even takes office, and we’re supposed to turn the other cheek? Bullshit!
Doug Morrison
Bob, your pretty quick to judge aren’t you. I know of the hurt but you sound just as judgemental as Rick Warren… I felt a kick in the gut from this choice but I still give Barack a chance to be a different kind of leader. Barack Obama isn’t even president and you put him down as no different than any other politician… I still believe that something good can come from this, time will tell? Give our new president a chance before you write him off…

In the next fram of the cartoon, we grab the bat and kick Warren in the crotch…”yeah NOW we’ll get along.”

Oh, I don’t know, I’ve never heard of the guy, and I’ve lived in Weho for 15 years. “Ridiculous, faggy and sometimes heartwarming world”? Japhy, you must live on a different block. 😉

For those that want to wait and see how Obama governs on our issues, starting out having a bloated bastard spit on us PUBLICLY doesn’t bode well.
Mike
I’m really less interested in symbolic issues, like who’s doing the damned inauguration — then substantive policy. If Obama wants to throw this stupid symbolic turd to the Christians, great. I’m more concerned with actual law and Supreme Court appointments. Save your anger for the big stuff.
Bill Perdue
@Doug Morrison:
Doug, lose the psycho babble. This isn’t a Sally Jesse Raphael rerun.
The only judgment necessary is a political judgment of a political act. Warren did Obama a big favor by giving him an entry in a huge bloc of pig bigot southern baptist voters. Obama won many of them over by saying that he opposed same sex marriage and equality because “god’s in the mix”. That got Obama elected by a larger margin but at the same time it torpedoed our chances in California, Arizona and Florida.
That is to say, Obama fucked us over. Big time. And he’ll do it again and again.
Here’s why. This is what Time Magazines John Cloud has to say in his essay The Problem for Gays with Rick Warren — and Obama:
That’s not the word I’d use because the absence of KY and condoms is not such a big worry when you’re getting snookered.
The difference between you and Bob is that you’re blind and Bob has his eyes wide open.

I will fully admit that when I heard that RW was his pick for the Inaguration, I wanted to vomit. I was mad because of H8 passing and to then be kicked in the gut with this was just the icing on the cake. BUT, I know politics and I know history. We cannot judge him yet because he’s not the president yet. Let me ask everyone this: what would you say to him after his first term in office and he passed the Employment Non-discrimination Bill that includes gays and the Matthew Shepard Act and repeals DADT? What would all you haters have to say then? If he were to pass even one of those, he’d be better than any other president yet. He has promised he would follow through with those promises and I will judge him on that and NOT RW giving a speech. He is the FIRST president to not shy away from saying GLBT multiple times when he speaks, infact, I would say he says it confidently. When has any other president (or nominee) ever embraced that acronym? NEVER. We all need to wait before passing judgement before we start acting like we are members in RW’s Saddleback church. That’s what the extreme right wants, to show how radical and extreme we are. Oh, and let’s not forget that he ran his campaign on BRINGING people together. Us gays can’t expect him to say “everyone except you, you, you, and oh yeah, you.”
PJ
I’m with Mike. I am not happy about Rick Warren doing the Inaugural Invocation but it really doesn’t matter all that much. Warren is going to bore us for 15 minutes and then go back to his his little homophobic ministry. I am concerned about how Obama is going to govern our nation. I am worried about how his policies are going to affect us. Is he going to roll over like Bill Clinton did? Or is he going to actually be the force of change in this nation that he has promised he was going to be?
I don’t care about what happens on January 20. I care more about what happens after that.
Mr. Obama, I voted for you. I have put my faith in you. But don’t think that I am not going to be watching you just as closely as I have been watching your predecessor.
Mr. Obama, You are on notice. Americans (gay, straight, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, et al.) are tired of empty promises and policies that don’t work. You want to be the force of change? Be it. Don’t promise it and renege, like every other politician before you.

Last I looked Rick Warren’s Constitutional Rights are sitting on that high shelf of equal protection clause.
Then he’s given the HONOR of participating in the NATION’S Inaugural ceremony, Obama doesn’t own, that WE the People own that.
Now Tammy Baldwin gets some TOKEN honorary Inaugural place, which I’m guessing Barney said NO THANKS to.
Obama, Biden, and Warren…could you make LGBTs LESS engaged or LESS celebratory?
I think Fred Phelps is f*ckin free that day too.
Michael
First off, thanks to whoever for posting my cartoon. I did it originally for 365gay.com, which publishes my “Troy” strip online, but since Friday I’ve been slammed with emails from readers saying how “spot on” this one comic was. I usually don’t do political stuff, so I’m pretty surprised.
I will say, I get why Obama is doing this. He wants to reach out and bridge gaps and all that happy talk crap. This cartoon is my emotional reaction to a Democrat once again showing no empathy for the gay community. “Thanks for your support. Later, bitches!” Rick Warren was one of the biggest proponents of Prop 8 and giving him such a place of honor at the inauguration is, to me, a slap in the face. I cried on election night when Obama gave his speech because I was so happy and hopeful. Then I cried again a couple hours later when Prop 8 passed. It was a very bitter pill. A lot of us are still feeling the sting of Prop 8 so no, I’m not ready to make nice. Obama wants to reach out? Fine. Knock yourself out. I’m sure he’ll make a much better president than Bush, but that’s not really saying much. As for how an Obama administration will treat the gay community, that remains to be seen. But based on this one action, he’s -1 in my book.
And one last thing, I’m sick of my life, my rights, being referred to as just another, little, unimportant “social issue”.
sal
perfectly put Michael,by that i mean comic AND comment.a Gay artist to another one, everything u described(like shedding tears for both the win of Obama and the defeat of Gays)i want through exactly,im sure we all did,and we need to remember this, this is our lives!!if we dont stand up,claim our equality, even if its “just warren”we need to listen to our aching hearts and look at why we feel this way-we are not equal and this incident just gave us that feeling once more.we must fight all ,big and small issues.ALL ,thankzz
Doug Morrison
@Bill Perdue: And your a no it all. If someone see’s something different than you its psycho babble.
Burnsey
Michael-
Thanks for the comic. It said everything I have been trying to say for the last few days. I am, however, suprised that you gave such a genourous score to Obama. Do you recall the Donnie McClurkin flap during the campaign which was part of Obama’s evangelical outreach? That put him 0-2 with me.
And Doug Morrison. Bill’s right. This ain’t Sally. And you started being the judgemental guy when you started attacking BOB for his feelings about Warren. Calling him intolerant just like Warren. And then you have the nerve to tell someone else that they are a no it all. Chill girl.
Joe Mama
Pansy-assed cry baby fags. That’s what this community is acting like. This administration is promising to be filled with progressive thoughtful professionals, we have a chance of getting out of Iraq, investments in our infrastructure, and an intelligent reasoned man as president. And we’re crying about who’s giving a prayer as if he’s just single handedly run us all into Auschwitz? Save these kinds of hysterics for the day (that will not come!) he signs anti-gay bigotry into law. And let’s not forget, we are one social issue in a country facing serious problems.
I don’t like this Warren guy any more than any gay does, but he’s not been appointed to a cabinet post and he’s not a spiritual advisor. Goodness, let’s be realistic and productive with our energies. The fight for civil rights is a long one, we’ll need our strength when this administration is actually IN office.
Nick
@Bob:
Yeah and the thing that so hurts me is that both Obama and Biden where all up in Ellen’s face and being all so PC. Like usual they use us for our money, support, our vote and then turn their backs with the arrogant understanding that in 4 years we’ll coming crawling back because, really, where else can we go? I for one just became an independent.

could you record “The First Cut is the Deepest”
I think it would make a SWELL hetero-inaugural, even SWELLER
F*ck IT
I’ll go see Milk again on the 20th, and recall when we had a LEADER.

I leave you my share of rick warren’s spit…slurp it up you pansy ass faggot
Michael
Dang, “Joe Mamaâ€! The vitriol in your comment is astounding! Do you do any other tricks, or is hurling gay slurs anonymously across the internet it for you? Tell the truth, now! You’re really Michael Savage, aren’t you.
I’m sure Obama will make a fine president. I hope he will. But he did what he did and that is he gave the gay community a slap in the face. No he didn’t stab us or deal us a mortal blow, but it was a slap. He added insult to injury. Prop 8 hurt a lot of us very badly, and Rick Warren was on of the people wielding that bat. And if that makes us a bunch of “Pansy assed cry baby fags,†well that’s just hateful.
I donated time and money to the Obama campaign because I thought he’d be different. But based on this, and that “Donnie McClurkin flapâ€, he is, to me, another “Separate but equal is good enough for you gays now shut up and get to the back of the bus already, I’ve got a country to run,†Democrat. And that’s not change we can believe in.
GirlsAloud
I thought we were suppose to be proud of being pansy ass faggots?
Bob
Doug, how many chances does Obama get? Sorry, but he lost me by failing to do more to stop prop 8 and by embracing this homophobe who thinks we’re subhuman.
sal
to “Joe Mama” did u read the news about the lesbian woman being gang raped??if our government doesnt stand with us ,not with just flat words and contradictory messages but with action (if he wont take a stand on the small issue what should give us faith he will stand by us on the big stuff)what do u suggest we do????IF the message that is sent is that we are not equal how in hell do we convince the jerks out there who JUSTIFY hurting us EVERYDAY?
Doug Morrison
I understand the anger directed at Barack Obama for choosing Rick Warren, it feels like a real betrayal and a kick in the gut. But I think we do need to get a grip and think! Living here in Ohio I watched as George Bush was re-elected and a gay marriage ban was voted into our state constitutionin the election of 2004, i was devestated! In the 4 years since, I saw the gop lose both houses of congress and the White House. Gay marriage almost passed in California! many who voted for it would now vote differently and maybe within 2 years it will pass and be the law of the land, then maybe made into national law? I hope it comes soon! It may not seem it, but the gay rights movement has made great advances towards equality! We have come so far and we are winning over hearts and minds in our struggle. now think about Barack Obama winning against McCain… I was never so proud of my nation as I was then. In battles you win some and you lose some, we are WINNING and we are moving forward! Rick Warren can be used to advance forward by highlighting his inconsistencies and proving him wrong. Think about this… What issue is front and center, GAY RIGHTS!!! We will win our rights
orwoodsman
Did you send money to Obama’s campaign? Send a message and ask for it back. It won’t work, but it will deliver the message.
Doug Morrison
I did give money to Obama and even though I don’t like his pick of Rick Warren I still have great hope for Obama… I just can’t quit you Obama, at least not at this early stage. I mean hell your not even pres yet. Good luck in leading America from the shitpile we now find ourselfs in. We all need to give and take to find our ways out of this pile!!!
tofer david
sadly obama is nothing more than he was when he ran and for anyone to expect any different did not pay attention well enough when he ran.
you reap what you sow my friends.
Jersey
Sadly we’ll have at least 4 years of watching Obama do some good things like unblock stem cell research, advance green energy initiatives, pass universal health care coverage etc and probably sit around and see nothing done in the way of advancing equality for gays and lesbians. It doesn’t seem to register on his meter does it? I will squeal like a stuck pig over gay issues and commend him on the other issues he gets right. It’s what we must do.
sal
Doug Morrison u remind me of one of those black people who would make excuses for racist hate in the 1950s like sayin so and so should of known better and know his or her place.guys like them didnt help my black ancestors when they fought, struggled with a society that before them never fathomed them,us as equal.so i forgive u,u believe the hype that we are not equal and that we should know our place as gays but there are some gays who dare to dream, like Martin Luther king and my black ancestors who dared to dream for something more than what was expected.NO EXCUSES MR OBAMA,ITS EITHER WE ARE EQUAL OR WE ARE NOT IN YOUR EYES
dvlaries
Obama’s choice of Warren is beginning to remind me of that line in Dangerous Liaisons: “Like most intellectuals, he’s intensely stupid.â€
niles
What bothers me more than the Proposition 8 thing it that, according to its website, “unrepentant” gays are specifically BANNED from attending his church.
Lucky Pierre
As an atheist, the invocation is meaningless to me. However, to millions of christian haters out there, it’s a message. It says “don’t worry folks, those uppity fags can scream all they want, but you know who luvs ya!” By refusing to rethink this, Obama and his team are sending us a message as well. We can ride the bus, but we better get used to sitting in the back.
Iman Azol
I’ll post it here because maybe a few of you will get it.
0bama is fucking you. Kneeling there in genuflection is only going to get you his cock down your throat. You are nothing but a tool to him. He has, and will continue, to treat you with utter contempt, and you will validate it by continuing to support him because “at least he SAYS the right things!”
Yup, a few words and he owns your ass and you’ll spread it for him and tell him how wonderful he is.
He’s going to blow more money than Bush in 3 months, not 8 years. He’s not going to pull troops out of Iraq any time soon (Fortunately. As an OIF vet, I understand what we’re doing there. You whining pussies don’t, and that’s another reason you’re getting fucked over). He’s not going to repeal Homeland Security; in fact, I expect he’ll expand it. All he’s going to do for gays is shit on them. If you can look at the appointees he’s made, and the plans he’s proposing, and not realize you’re fucked, you probably enjoy a good sandpaper dildo.
Someone who tells you they hate you is probably telling the truth. Someone who tells you they’re your best friend in the world is only looking to bone you in the ass, and you won’t get a reacharound.
Play, “But what if we get 5% of our fantasy?” all you want. The Democrats are going to shit on a plate, you’re going to eat it and tell them how wonderful it is, and they’re going to do it again and again and again every election until you grow the fuck up and TAKE your rights.
And you know, you turn a bunch of black Baptists and Hispanic and illegal Catholics out to vote for 0bama, and you can’t be surprised when their religious brainwashing makes them vote against gays. If you expected otherwise, you’re not only naive, you’re a fucking tool and a moron.
