A genealogical study has found that silver fox newsman Anderson Cooper’s great-great-grandfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt, once owned Michelle Obama’s great-great-grandfather, Jim Robinson, on “Friendfield,” a 3,000-acre plantation in Georgetown, South Carolina.

true or not i find it totally offensive and completely insensitive to write that his great great whatever owned anyone without putting quotations around the word owned. one human being could not, and can not, own another human being… he “owned” her… he did now own her… there is a world of difference.

I find it odd that Cornelius Vanderbilt, the quintissential Northern Capitalist, would own a slave-holding plantation in South Carolina.

Can we have a fact-check? Was it owned by one of his railroad holdings?
