GOP Stalwart Orrin Hatch On Marriage Equality: “States Have A Right To Do It”

I’m a believer that the states should be able to make their own determination… There are about, what, six states that have done it? They’ve chosen to do that. I don’t agree with that, because I believe in the sanctity of the marriage covenant and the traditional definition, but the states have a right to do it.”

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) breaking with fellow Mormon Republican Mitt Romney, who has endorsed a proposed amendment banning same-sex marriages in all 50 states, at the GOP Convention In Tampa.

      What a hypocrite.

“because I believe in the sanctity of the marriage covenant”.. does that mean he would endorse a motion to ban divorce?

@MikeE: Don’t be silly, this isn’t really about marriage, the fight is for the dignity and respect of being treat as an equal. They will fight every step of the way to stop it. Gay Marriage is just another line they’ve fallen back too in their losing war.

Also, because I didn’t finish my reply, that was a dig at how they apply these rules but never follow them. Like their rules about sanctity of life while murdering thousands etc.
