Have You Adopted a Gay American Hero Yet?

No, we’re not talking about Dan Choi or Victor Fehrenbach. We’re talking about Lawrence King, Lateisha Green, and Sean Kennedy. The queer Americans who lost their lives because somebody thought they were less than. Through GayAmericanHeroes.info, anyone can “adopt” one of these heroes and commit to keeping their memories alive. It’s part of the Gay American Heroes Foundation, which is creating the Rainbow Memorial, a “traveling memorial to celebrate the lives of LGBT persons who have been murdered because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.” Above, singer and Eating Out 3 actor Chris Salvatore says he’s keeping Lawrence close to his vest. Who will you choose?

This is great and touching. Of course, there are no posts here because everyone flocks to that non-important, stupid Adam threads, or that Miss America bimbo.

I’ll admit, Chris Salvatore is too good looking for this plea/announcement. I really did have a hard time concentrating because he’s that good looking. I know, I’m sad.

This is a wonderful idea to celebrate and strengthen the memory of these martyrs.

This is a very worthwhile effort. Exactly the sort of thing that we should do.

Its a good idea. However, the definition of hero is a person distinguished by exceptional courage and nobility and strength. These were victims of hate crimes, not hero’s of hate crimes.

If the fear of male/male attraction in its many varied forms is minimized and men can just lighten up about sexuality in general perhaps these incidents will become less common.

To that end…check out our new song “Straight Boys Spoonin’ ” … Baby Seal Club’s latest online offering. http://www.babysealclub.com

Bravo Chris! I think gay people should do the same with gay celebrities. We should follow their careers and make sure they are successful because when they are successful it makes it easier for the next generation.

Chris Salvatore’s message is spot-on. He’s also hot. From one Italian to another. Graziamenti.

This is great pr. It’s also tragic that we have to chat up our martyrs just to get a fair hearing.
A moment of silence please for all the queers who’ve lost their lives in this heartless, cowardly, bullying culture.

This is so amazing. When I feel so embarrassed and disgusted at the Hollywood celebrities and Washington politicians who are gay and keep quiet. Yes, poison is spreading in our community, but from gays too. If every gay man and woman in Hollywood came out, there would be no more stigma because most of Hollywood is gay. And so what are people going to do? Never again go see a movie or tune in to a TV show? Shame on those who are allegedly gay and play coy: Jodie Foster, Anderson Cooper, Ricky Martin, Tom Cruise, Zachary Quinto, Wentworth MIller etc. How strong and courageous are these other people that died for living out and proud, while these other celebrities stay in their comfortable closets making millions.
The arguments of “privacy” and not forcing anyone out are ludicrous when applied to public personalities that are millionaires, enjoy power and fame, and could certainly do so much. It’s not just President Obama and Congress, it’s not just straights becoming our allies, it’s gays helping out gays. Until that happens, nothing will change.

It’s so sad that so many queers comment on Carrie Prejean and Adam Lambert, instead of this. That’s why our so-called community is doomed.

This is not heroism, this is martyrdom.

Where are those gays who prevented getting bashed by fighting back? Those are MY heroes.
