If you were like us or just about everyone on the planet and found the 1994 film of Anne Rice‘s homoerotic classic Interview With the Vampire to be a bit de-fanged thanks to the controversial casting of Tom Cruise as flamboyant bloodsucker Lestat, how do you feel about Jared Leto in the role? Writer-director Josh Boone, who’s been entrusted with the reboot, thinks he’ll be perfect.

Heads up Wicked fans! Elphaba and Glinda reunited when Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel took the stage for a new duet of “For Good.”
Usually when you think about Patsy and Eddie and AbFab, you’re popping corks on copious bottles of Bolly, but it will likely be Diet Coke instead as the company will do LGBT consumers a solid by releasing a limited edition bottling of the soft drink bearing the cartoon likeness of the comic duo timed to the release of the feature film adaptation in July.
Justin Timberlake‘s new single “Can’t Stop The Feeling” from the film Trolls features a bunch of people who are anything but.
How about we take this to the next level?

Stuart Townsend was the vampire Lestat in Queen of the Damned (2002)

I thought Tom Cruise was fine as the vampire.

Tom Cruise was the most miscast actor in that fateful movie. I was a fan of the books and was disappointed by the mainstreaming of his character.

Regardless of my thoughts regarding Tom Cruise as Lestat in Interview (didn’t fit the role physically but portrayal was true to character) or Stuart Townsend in QotD (fit the role physically, but portrayal wasn’t true to character), I would say NO to Leto. Yes, he’s pretty, yes, he’s a good actor, but at least from my point of view, the age of the character when he was turned was a very important part of who he was. They need someone who can believably look like he’s about 20. That’s how old Lestat is supposed to be.

Yet another useless remake. Sure there were some who were unhappy with Tom Cruise, but for the vast majority of audience AND critics, he blew all expectations, and nailed the part better than anyone thought he could.
The movie itself is iconic, just like “Carrie”, and we see how that turned out. Add “Fright Night” and “Poltergeist” as well.
The only reason to look forward to Stephen King’s “IT”, is because that was originally a TV movie. They could do more with a theatrical release.
There’s nowhere to go with “Interview”.

From the looks of it, Jennifer Lopez thinks only skinny women should be pissed off.

Nicholas Hoult would be a better Lestat I think anyway.

I think Leto would make a better Louis than Lestat…

Cruise was terrible as Lestat (he’s nearly always terrible to unwatchable, IMHO, and an awful, crazy human being outside of acting), so any replacement would be an improvement. That said, Leto doesn’t seem like a great choice on paper, but you can’t deny he’s talented and on a roll.

@Ken A.: Hoult’s already had practice as an undead. So he works for me. ….. But actually, I’d prefer Charlie Hunnam.

Could Justin Timberlake possibly be any cuter?

Jared Leto is starting to look just like Gwendonline Christie.

Tom Cruise was a COMPLETE failure as Lestat. Stuart Townsend is sexier but was also a failure. I don’t think Leto will save the day for us. He will just be another failure. The young Alain Delon would have been a perfect Lestat. Deadly attractive, dark features, could be plausibly sinister and seductive. But now he is too old for that.

Tom Cruise is the definitive Lestat by virtual of the (probable) fact that the overwhelming majority of the people who even know what a “Lestat” is know of it via Tom Cruise’s performance.
I can’t get past the hideous music in “Queen of The Damned” but, Stuart Townsend (when he looks blond) seems to be more of how Anne Rice described Lestat.
Queen of The Damned looks like it started out intending to be a long saga but that the production ran short on money and had to piece together a hurried conclusion.

JLo’s new song was catchy. Now we just need a version where men tell women they “ain’t their daddy”, so pay your bills, buy your jewelry, pick up tickets to the show, hold your own damn door… and don’t expect any sex just because you’re in the mood… you’re on your own girl. We “aint your daddy”.
And then, of course, we need a song for the kids who have wrongly been expecting something from mamma and daddy. suck it up kids. you have to earn it. work work work. and if you impress, maybe we’ll give you a scrap of validation and directions to the corner store. I’m sure you’ll turn out just fine.
