Naugle’s Anti-Gay Politics Inspire Competition

naugle.jpg
Jim Naugle better watch his back!

The mayor of Fort Lauderdale caused a major stink last year when he prescribed pay-per-pee robotoilets to combat public gay sex. He later went on to describe the homo population as “unhappy.” He may have been smug back then, but now Naugle’s facing some major same-sex competition for his mayoral seat – and many are blaming his backward politics:

A second openly gay candidate filed to run for Fort Lauderdale mayor this week, citing Naugle’s comments last year as inspiration.

Political newcomer Earl Rynerson, owner of a tile store, joins former City Commissioner Dean Trantalis as an openly gay mayoral hopeful.

Rynerson said he wants to polish the city’s image, which he said was tarnished by Naugle.

Also running for mayor are City Commissioner Cindi Hutchinson, State Rep. Jack Seiler and criminal defense attorney Steve Rossi.

Hutchinson, who said she is “from the heterosexual community,” also mentioned Naugle’s comments when she announced her candidacy last November. She promised to be “inclusive” and “mayor for all of Fort Lauderdale.”

See, Republicans? Divisiveness doesn’t count as a sustainable platform – and now the bottom’s falling out.

Guys, he is term-limited. He cannot run for Mayor again anyway.
