EYES ON THE GUYS

PHOTOS: Andy Warhol’s Intimate Male Nudes Up For Auction

PHOTOS: Deep, deep in the Andy Warhol archives — to the immediate right of Candy Darling’s jumpsuits — were over 200 photographs, prints and drawings focused primarily on the male nude. Sure, we can say the same thing, but we’re not Andy Warhol. And starting today, you can bid on some of these private privates through Christies online auction, “For Members Only: Eyes on the Guise.”

The auction was planned to coincide with Pride Month, Warhol being an early and active supporter of LGBT rights and an early and active homosexual.

“In 1984, Andy participated in New York’s Gay Day parade (as they called it then). He took photos,  and the pride they displayed then is the pride which we feel today,” said Joel Wachs, President of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

The auction will run through June 27 with bids starting around $800. So anyone (with $800 lying around) can get their hands on some of this Warhol work, the majority of which hasn’t been seen in public.

For more info on the auction, click here. But before you do that, take a peek at what’s up on the auction block.

“Bodybuilder” and “Pool Party” is actually of the ex-Governator, Arnold Schwarzenaggar who also had frontal photos published. Here a different face has been photoshopped in for legal reasons. Note: Arnold wore his signature haircut then and was a fame whore who posed for every photographer during his Mr. Olympia days. This paparazzi frenzy drove Maria Shriver crazy during the early years of their marriage.

The “Male Nude” is redolent of Cocteau.

“Querelle” was on the cover of the 1978 Stones album “Love You Live”. Paul America’s underpants are, of course, behind the zipper on “Sticky Fingers”.

Robert Frank’s photos for “Exile” are better.
