Pass. Not interested. Attitude magazine is the worst of it’s kind. They always put haterosexuals on the covers.

The visual culture in modern society is dominated by the “male gaze”, even in gay culture. I think the glorification of the heterosexual male in the homosexual society is very dangerous, and definitely creates internalized homophobia because this “norm” of heterosexuality is still pushed upon us.

This guy is hot, for sure. But there are plenty of homosexual men that could be used for this shot. Maybe it’s time we start accepting our own, and finally kill this abusive relationship we have with the heterosexual fantasy.

You forgot the most important bits: he’s Australian and a rugby player. I don’t know about America, but either one earns him big bonus points here in England!

maybe if there were more gay stars/athletes that were out they wouldn’t fill the need to put straight men on the cover.

@Colin: 1. Most of the gay people that pick up this magazine won’t know who he is. He has no name recognition in the gay community. 2. Attitude is a British magazine. They went all the way to Australia to get a photo spread from a unknown heterosexual male. Makes no sense. 3. Attitude or any other gay magazine can find 12 gay people to be on there covers during the year. They just don’t want to find gay people. Instead they want to find haterosexuals and give them prime space while gay people are marginalized within supposedly gay magazines.

Why do gay mags put straight men on their covers? The same reason Vogue — a magazine primarily aimed at rich middle aged women — puts photoshopped fourteen-year-old Eastern European girls on their cover. It’s all a fantasy…

I’m not gay because I’m attracted to gay men; I’m gay because I’m attracted to men. All this self-flagellation is sad and pointless. When it comes to who we objectify, their sexuality ought to be a non-issue.

@cufflinks: when was the last time you saw Vogue with a model on the cover?

@Andrew W: or, we stop comparing ourselves to the empowered heterosexual and start empowering ourselves, and stop objectifying men and creating this oversexed culture driven by an impossible desire to conquer the heterosexual norm.

@cufflinks: And that’s besides the point. The heterosexual man should not be the object of our desire.

@Andrew W: That’s why supposedly gay magazines go out of their way to find haterosexuals. It is on purpose.

@AlwaysGay: Your nasty little neologism, “haterosexuals,” is the worst sort of categoric bigotry. If it’s fair for one of us to slur hets as a category, it’s fair for them to do the same to us. Shame on you and any of us who fall into that trap.
