LUST OBJECT — Nick Youngquest may be a married heterosexual, but the gays still love him. It helps that he’s attractive. And that he’s willing to be fawned over by gay dudes, whether it’s on this website, in Gods Of Football, or on the Sex Issue of British gay rag Attitude. Cue the cries of “Why do gay mags always put straight guys on the cover?!”
alan brickman
It ok for him to be on the cover..just don’t be jealous control queens over this…
Rick
Who cares if he is straight, gay or whatever. He does it REAL good.
AlwaysGay
Pass. Not interested. Attitude magazine is the worst of it’s kind. They always put haterosexuals on the covers.
Alexandre
The visual culture in modern society is dominated by the “male gaze”, even in gay culture. I think the glorification of the heterosexual male in the homosexual society is very dangerous, and definitely creates internalized homophobia because this “norm” of heterosexuality is still pushed upon us.
This guy is hot, for sure. But there are plenty of homosexual men that could be used for this shot. Maybe it’s time we start accepting our own, and finally kill this abusive relationship we have with the heterosexual fantasy.
ChristopherJ
@Alexandre: seriously
AlwaysGay
@Alexandre: Three cheers! It’s past time we kill it.

You forgot the most important bits: he’s Australian and a rugby player. I don’t know about America, but either one earns him big bonus points here in England!
Coke
I’ll allow it this one time.
Colin
maybe if there were more gay stars/athletes that were out they wouldn’t fill the need to put straight men on the cover.
Antonio
WOW!!!! what HOT MAN!!!!! I want one like that!!!
AlwaysGay
@Colin: 1. Most of the gay people that pick up this magazine won’t know who he is. He has no name recognition in the gay community. 2. Attitude is a British magazine. They went all the way to Australia to get a photo spread from a unknown heterosexual male. Makes no sense. 3. Attitude or any other gay magazine can find 12 gay people to be on there covers during the year. They just don’t want to find gay people. Instead they want to find haterosexuals and give them prime space while gay people are marginalized within supposedly gay magazines.

Why do gay mags put straight men on their covers? The same reason Vogue — a magazine primarily aimed at rich middle aged women — puts photoshopped fourteen-year-old Eastern European girls on their cover. It’s all a fantasy…
Andrew W
I’m not gay because I’m attracted to gay men; I’m gay because I’m attracted to men. All this self-flagellation is sad and pointless. When it comes to who we objectify, their sexuality ought to be a non-issue.
Alexandre
@cufflinks: when was the last time you saw Vogue with a model on the cover?
Alexandre
@Andrew W: or, we stop comparing ourselves to the empowered heterosexual and start empowering ourselves, and stop objectifying men and creating this oversexed culture driven by an impossible desire to conquer the heterosexual norm.
Alexandre
@cufflinks: And that’s besides the point. The heterosexual man should not be the object of our desire.

@AlwaysGay
They didn’t go to Australia – nick Plays for Gateshead Thunder in the North East of England

AlwaysGay
@Andrew W: That’s why supposedly gay magazines go out of their way to find haterosexuals. It is on purpose.
mujerado
@AlwaysGay: Your nasty little neologism, “haterosexuals,” is the worst sort of categoric bigotry. If it’s fair for one of us to slur hets as a category, it’s fair for them to do the same to us. Shame on you and any of us who fall into that trap.

I’m sorry, but to this trite, old argument against putting hot straight men on the cover of gay men’s magazine’s: who cares???
First off, the magazine is supposed to be about things we like, and LORD knows, I like this man. I don’t think I’m alone in that, either.
Secondly, if we’re going to make this distinction about the cover modeal, then shouldn’t it be qualified that there are no female writers for a gay men’s magazine (whether or not they prove they’re lesbians) or straight writers, photographer, typesetters, assistants….
Likewise, straight themed magazines should never feature prominent gays on their covers or on staff. All for complete segregation, raise your hands!
I am saying, if you want to put yourself back into the gay ghetto, then why bother having a nationally published magazine at all and fighting for equality? Let’s get that island the bigots want to put us on and be done with it.

@startenout: I totally agree with you. (sorry for my english but i’m french and you know how we are good with other languages !)

Heterophobia is no prettier than homophobia. Putting straight guys down because they’re straight is just as hateful as someone putting us down because we’re gay. If you have something against straight men, don’t look at them; but don’t you DARE presume to tell the rest of us whom we should admire.
scotshot
@Alexandre: When have straights not been glorified/lusted after. They’re all around
us if you haven’t noticed. Stop objectifying them? What planet do you live on?
You might stop to consider that there is no norm of homosexuality just as there is no norm of heterosexuality.
I’ve spent my life pretty much living it as I’ve wanted to. I’ve dug holes for a living, worked on railroad tracks, done
construction, and had jobs dealing with people on million dollar projects. My point is I don’t need to have someone who
sadly defines themselves solely by their sexuality dictating how I must live, act, & think. I came out over 40 years ago &
refuse to go back to the 1950s.
