The visual culture in modern society is dominated by the “male gaze”, even in gay culture. I think the glorification of the heterosexual male in the homosexual society is very dangerous, and definitely creates internalized homophobia because this “norm” of heterosexuality is still pushed upon us.
This guy is hot, for sure. But there are plenty of homosexual men that could be used for this shot. Maybe it’s time we start accepting our own, and finally kill this abusive relationship we have with the heterosexual fantasy.

@Colin: 1. Most of the gay people that pick up this magazine won’t know who he is. He has no name recognition in the gay community. 2. Attitude is a British magazine. They went all the way to Australia to get a photo spread from a unknown heterosexual male. Makes no sense. 3. Attitude or any other gay magazine can find 12 gay people to be on there covers during the year. They just don’t want to find gay people. Instead they want to find haterosexuals and give them prime space while gay people are marginalized within supposedly gay magazines.

Why do gay mags put straight men on their covers? The same reason Vogue — a magazine primarily aimed at rich middle aged women — puts photoshopped fourteen-year-old Eastern European girls on their cover. It’s all a fantasy…

First off, the magazine is supposed to be about things we like, and LORD knows, I like this man. I don’t think I’m alone in that, either.
Secondly, if we’re going to make this distinction about the cover modeal, then shouldn’t it be qualified that there are no female writers for a gay men’s magazine (whether or not they prove they’re lesbians) or straight writers, photographer, typesetters, assistants….
Likewise, straight themed magazines should never feature prominent gays on their covers or on staff. All for complete segregation, raise your hands!
I am saying, if you want to put yourself back into the gay ghetto, then why bother having a nationally published magazine at all and fighting for equality? Let’s get that island the bigots want to put us on and be done with it.

Heterophobia is no prettier than homophobia. Putting straight guys down because they’re straight is just as hateful as someone putting us down because we’re gay. If you have something against straight men, don’t look at them; but don’t you DARE presume to tell the rest of us whom we should admire.

You might stop to consider that there is no norm of homosexuality just as there is no norm of heterosexuality.

construction, and had jobs dealing with people on million dollar projects. My point is I don’t need to have someone who
sadly defines themselves solely by their sexuality dictating how I must live, act, & think. I came out over 40 years ago &
refuse to go back to the 1950s.
