Understanding…

“A survey by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life found that those attending historically black churches are far more accepting of the LGBT community than white evangelicals or Mormons.” [Equally Speaking]

This would seem to utterly contradict some of Queerty’s racist commenters. Maybe they’ll shut the fuck up now.

TO EVERYONE IN CA:
As everyone knows, the Mormon church is the leading proponent of Prop 8 in CA. and have been saying hateful things about gay people in their churches every Sunday.
What you probably don’t know is that Mormons have a thing called “Fast & Testimony” meeting every 1st Sunday of the month.
At this meeting, anyone can get up and bear their “testimony.’

I challenge you folks in CA to go to your nearest LDS (Mormon) church on Sunday, Nov. 2nd and “bear your testimony” that gay people are okay and how Prop 8 would negatively affect you.
When you go, wear a white shirt, tie and slacks (or a dress for the ladies) if you can, that way you’ll blend in a bit and they won’t be suspicious of you until you get up and bear your “testimony.”
Just watch the first few people and see how they go up to the podium and speak and then do likewise.

Here’s an interesting article from today’s Salt Lake Tribune about how Prop. 8 is dividing Mormons, that not all are typical sheep and following the church’s guidance on this issue:

You are misstating the poll. They did NOT say that members of historically black churches are FAR more accepting. The actial comment from the Pew Research Poll is this…. “Roughly seven-in-ten evangelical Pentecostals (71%) say that homosexuality is a way of life that should be discouraged by society, as do more than six-in-ten members of black Pentecostal churches (61%).”"

So what was shown is that a large marjority of Historically black Pentacostal Churches believe homosexuality should be discouraged, and even higher percentage of all Pentacostal denominations feel it should be discouraged. So they are both against us, one just more so. Be careful of incorrectly stating data.

Cam is correct, entirely. Queerty is misrepresenting this information, it would seem.

In any case, I was mouthing off about how African Americans are much more anti-gay than any other ethnic grouping in the US and I guess I’m just going to have to eat my words there and accept that I was wrong.
