As if Nip/Tuck‘s new season isn’t star studded enough with the addition of Mario Lopez as a homo, Access Hollywood, the leader of great journalism, just announced that once-promising singer, Alanis Morissette just signed on to guest star as a lezzie. Morrissette will appear in three episodes as the lover of Dr. Liz Cruz, whose played by Roma Maffia.
Don’t quote us on this, but we have a feeling Morissette has a little practice as a labia lover. She was, after all, a big star during the 90s and all feminist and the such. Yeah, she’s probably gone down under a few times. She looks like she’d be good at it, too.

Didn’t she kiss Sarah Jessica Parker in an episode of Sex and the City? They were playing spin the bottle at a party.

Apparently the lesbian community in Ottawa (where she gew up and lived) was taken aback when she allegedly dumped her lesbian girlfriend and moved out of town when she hit the big time. Her much publicized hetero escapades were also met with scepticism in Ottawa gay circles. But then maybe her sexuality is a lot more fluid than we thought. Hey.,..she may win an Emmy if she’s “convincing” enough.

She has stated that she is physically attracted to women, but only falls in love with men.

Being “engaged to Alanis†is a euphemism like “friend of Dorothyâ€. All of her boyfriends have been “girlfriendsâ€. Best example gay hotty Ryan Reynolds.

Not to be too harsh, but Alanis is a great supporter of gay rights, and she has been very open about her sexuality, acknowledging that she has explored attraction to both men and women but finds herself more drawn to men. Still, she’s about as openly supportive of gays as celebrities get. Second, I didn’t appreciate the “once-promising” adjective used by the author of this article. Though the public hasn’t kept up with Alanis the way they did after her first album, she has since released several top-rate discs, discs which helped me as a gay man to learn to be myself and to grow as a person. She’s still quite promising–just not as vehemently adored by the general public, which, in my experience, is not a good gage for artistic worthiness anyway!

To Howard Stern, she admitted experimenting, but not particularly connected with the lesbian experience, which might be where RJ is quoting from.
The real question is, beside saying she is a lesbian on the show, if there is not any scene that demonstrably indicates so, that is not much of an acting commitment.
As an actress, she picks good promotional guest spots. This is a marketing thing; she knows what generates buzz (and not to be cynical, but let’s call her relationship to to Ryan Reynolds what it is, good buzz.) Her spot on Lovespring International was cute.
