Anderson Cooper may seem like one cool, calm and collected cat—but you do not want to question his integrity.
Taping a segment of his talk show with Bravo personality Andy Cohen, Cooper revealed how galled he was that former daytime-TV personality Star Jones called his coming out this summer an attempt at garnering ratings.
When Cohen asked if anything has changed for Cooper since he disclosed his sexuality in July, the Silver Fox replied, “I will say, and I actually haven’t mentioned this, the only thing that did kind of annoy me—and actually it annoyed my mom, who brought it up to me—[was] Star Jones of all people. I haven’t thought about Star Jones in I don’t know how long. I was unaware she was even on TV still … but she apparently shows up on a morning show. Out of the blue Star Jones … said this was a ratings ploy by me to boost ratings.”
On the episode of Anderson Live airing today, Cooper says Jones has her head up her ass. (Well, in more polite terms.) “If I was wanting to boost ratings, I would have waited to announce it on ‘A Very Special Episode’ that would have been promo’d for weeks and weeks and there would have been commercials [for] ‘Anderson’s Huge Announcement!”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
In reality, Cooper discussed being gay in an email to fellow journalist Andrew Sullivan, who posted the note online with Cooper’s permission.
Perhaps most shocking of all is the fact that Jones turned down an offer to appear on Anderson Live and discuss her comments. “I would think she would want as much publicity as possible,” said Cooper. “Given her penchant for wanting publicity.”
Hmm, sounds like this fox has fangs.

Lets be real here, Star is just pissed because everybody was telling her the man she was marrying was gay. She didn’t believe them, and now feels stupid.
LaTeesha
Star needs help. A lot of help.
sfbeast
let’s face it, they ALL crave publicity. did Anderson really need a TV talk show?? but everyone has to have one. I think he’s fine as a news commentator, but I could barely get thru a few minutes of his show.
MikeE
soooooooo… can I ask a stupid question?
what’s a Star Jones?
NormdePlume
Anderson: NO ONE pays any attention to not-a-star-jones. Why should you?
Rock Star
She’s the queen of drama in her own mind, and just jealous and still a bit too sensitive about the whole gay thing since her ex, Al is gayer than a three dollar bill and thats how much money he had before meeting Star, the lipo suction queen! I wish Star all the best, BTW.
David Torres
Star Jones was only telling the truth. However, she has no room to talk as she simply refuses to discuss her gay ex-husband.
J.T.
Of course his integrity can be questioned. This is the guy who wrote a friggin’ autobiography without thinking it was important to mention he was guy. And, then with a decline in ratings, he’s suddenly Mr. Up Front and Out.
KDub
Of course he did. His show is awful and ratings show it. But since everyone pretty much thought he was gay anyway, I don’t think it’s going to be enough to help him out. Try again, Coop! Maybe adopt an Asian or African kid?
Tone
Shame on her cheapening what is a very personal and life-changing experience for lesbian and gay people. May her fading “star” continue to wane.
Dumdum
Anderson Coopers show is less than stellar. But he comes off as genuine and unpretentious. Not at all mean and bitchy like all you queens. He is an excellent role model, a successful, accomplished person with integrity. And he is really handsome. Jealous much.

Star Jones trashing Cooper sounds more like a publicity stunt to get some attention for Star Jones. However, if anyone knows anything about publicity stunts it would be Star – after all she pumped up here sham wedding for months on “The View” to get all of the publicity and freebies possible. Exactly what is it that the no-talent Ms. Jones is doing these days?
Cam
@Rock Star:
Every line was perfect in your comment. LOL!!!
Nikkidane
Star Jones is an absolute idiot. She has made so many stupid statements in The View. Once she didn’t realize the earth was not flat..lol. Seriously! She’s a Born Again Christian and thinks being gay is a sin. Need we say more.
LadyL
@mcflyer54: She puts in an occasional appearance on the Today show, usually as one of “Today’s Professionals.” Beyond that… not too sure.
With respect to publicity Our Miss Jones certainly does come off as a pot calling the kettle, but Anderson’s upset over it seems a tad… something. Overly sensitive, maybe? You get the feeling Star struck a nerve.
@J.T.: Point taken.

@MikeE: – Hey there MikeE! A Star Jones is a hard weight that you put on the floor to prop open a door and to prevent the door from swinging closed. They come in many styles, but generally they’re shellacked and/or varnished to try to get rid of the ugly. Oftentimes everyone forgets they’re there, just passing it by while living their lives, but sometimes you need to move the door, so the best thing to do is to just kick it to the side.
Kieran
Yeah, Anderson came out for ratings. Because everybody knows how popular gay people are in America ever since Homophobia officially died out in 2009.
Rockery
I think we can all slam Star, but a lot of people are thinking it. I don’t think he needs a talk show, I watched on episode where he was cross examining some housewife and it was boring, yet uncomfortable, it was a disaster
DavidTheLeo
I don’t blame Anderson Cooper for being outraged. Star Jones is a pig.

Cooper has every right to be ticked off, what does coming out have to do with getting higher ratings? All shows seek high ratings to stay alive. The man has looks, intelligence, heart and a pair of brass ones to go overseas and on many an occasion to report the news live from a disaster area and or war zone. According to The New York Times, he is “the most prominent openly gay journalist on American television. For years Cooper avoided discussing his private life in interviews although independent news sources reported on his being gay and in May 2007, Out magazine ranked him second behind David Geffen in its list of the fifty “Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America. Cooper is well liked, admired and loved by many. That was five years ago Star! Keep up with the news instead of using the tabloids like the National Enquirer as your main source of information with captions like I was impregnated by an Alien. How did it make you feel with all the speculations on why you divorced? Probably like you had bitten down on a lemon.
How can she be in show business and be homophobic? Does not compute! They do miracles with her hair (wigs) and face makeup! Does not compute. If anything it looks like Star is the one yearning for ratings. She looked ridiculous on dancing with the stars. Jones is many things but being a Christian is not one of them! Who gave her a license to judge other people? She should work on her self to be a better person and do good things for the betterment of humanity as a whole instead of being petty. She should start off by standing naked in front of a mirror, no wig, no makeup, now have a reality check with what you see! “YOU SHOULD NOT PASS JUDGEMENT ON ANYTHING OR ANYONE, LOOKING AND SHAPED LIKE A PIGEON IN DRAG!” I’m willing to wager the VIEW would have higher ratings if they replaced both Star and the opinionated blonde with anorexia.

“Coming out” is ALWAYS fraught with conflict. You’re ‘damned if you do’ AND ‘damned if you don’t’! In one case, you are accused of being dishonest…in the second case you are “accused” of “flaunting it”. Hets need to be more sensitive to this conundrum that LGBTQ people wrestle with in their social life.
BTW…I’m sick and tired of those idiots who always say, “I don’t go around telling people I’m heterosexual.”

Star Jones continues to be a royal pain in the a– with her desperate attempt to gain publicity. No one cares what she thinks. They never did and they never will and lest she forget – we all watched as she tried to get free things for her wedding and that was revolting as is she. Get over it Star. Leave Anderson alone and look at your own personal life.
