Craigslist Killer Stands By Her (Man-Loving) Man

“I also love my fiance and I will continue to support him throughout this legal process. What has been portrayed and leaked to the media is not the Philip Markoff that I know. To me and my family he is a loving and caring person and in the eyes of the law and the Constitution, he is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. I just can only hope that the criminal justice system will not be overwhelmed and pursuaded by what is being put forth in the media. My fiance’s fate should not rest in the court of public opinion, but rather in a court of law.” —Meghan McAllister, fiance to alleged Craigslist Killer Philip Markoff, who went after men and transexuals as well as women, declaring she’s standing by her man [ABC]

This headline is wrong. It makes it sound like the fiancee is the killer.

I feel bad for her just like I did or sorta do for Casey Anthony’s parents.

I don’ know…on one hand they’re victims too, just protecting their loved ones, but there comes a point where they are just blinded by closed minded ignorance and it becomes harder and harder to feel sympathy for them.

I hope this girl wises up and realizes how lucky she really is that all this came to light.

I still say he probably wasn’t looking to suck dick – he was just looking for another easy mark to steal from.

Well, I hope she gives up when a court of law convicts him.

I didn’t like all of Japhy’s work, but I’m now seeing that he wasn’t the only one into sensationalizing stories for the titillation factor.

ONE man has come forward to say Markoff approached him. I’m in Boston and have seen the story numerous times. I assume, but am not certain, that the man in question is trans.

In addition to being just plain wrong — as Jeff pointed out, it makes it sound like the fiancee is the killer — this “Man-Loving” headline does a serious disservice to us. He sent out some sexy pictures TO LURE IN A VICTIM. This kind of violence is not about sex, particularly when the police are still pointing to robbery as a potential motive. People who have things to hide are good victims because they are less likely to report.

Furthermore, the difference between a legitimate news outlet and a muckraker can sometimes be delineated with a single word: “alleged.” Do I think he’s guilty? Fuck, yeah. But this is still the U.S. and until he is proven as such, it is neither proper nor legal to refer to him as a killer.

Of course, referring to his fiance as a killer is just plain stupid.

I think that if the editors of Queerty wish to be taken seriously as an alternative to the mainstream printed press, they should consider using more moderate language about someone who hasn’t been convicted of anything yet, nor had any of the evidence tested in a court of law.

In law he remains an innocent man unless a jury decide otherwise. As others have pointed out above, there is little evidence that he actually wanted to sleep with men. His behaviour with the women he met suggests (without further evidence) that he was planning to rob them. Even if he was planning on having sex with them, using the term ‘man-loving’ is a strange phrase to use. I would expect it in some of the more sensationalist rags that have a homophobic agenda. It is not really something I wish to read on a pro-gay rights news blog.

Indeed, your headline suggests that his fiancee is the Craigslist killer. I’m assuming that wasn’t your intention.

What a dizzy broad. She KNOWs this guy eh? While it is not common to be a murderer or psychopath, it does happen. A number of men over the years have been reported to have multiple complete families and for a loooooong while, each wife was fooled. Ted Bundy could be quite pleasant and had numerous girlfriends.

Unless this woman is/was with Markoff 24 hours a day, how in the hell does she know how he spends his free time? The only thing I agree with is the court of law not public opinion should decide this guy’s fate.

Heterosexual males are the ones that go after MtF transsexuals sexually. Gay men are not interested in MtF transsexuals.
