Hmmmm, sarcasm is only successful when the comparisons make sense. Yes there should be contempt in the posed question between “flamboyant” and “slutty”. But is that really the same as the choice faced by Sophie?
As a child (8 years old, 1968), I remember lucidly the horrific stories, even adjusted for children to hear, that my great aunt told us of her and a handful of her family survival from the threat of concentration camps and the loss of many other family members.
To use “Sophie’s Choice” as a foil for the idiocy of Terrible Choices insults the many victims of ALL holocausts.
I stand by my post; you can laugh away all you want if you think that Queerty’s post is a successful use of sarcasm. But I’ll stick with my understanding of Ciceroian rhetorical devices, though learned many years ago as a Berkeley undergrad.
