The Olympics is an incredible opportunity for the world to synchronize its attention on a pressing issue, but this year Team USA is creating tension even within the United States.
For the two out male athletes competing for medals under the American flag, every move will be scrutinized.

“We’re here. We’re queer. Get used to it,” the caption reads, echoing a slogan that dates back to Queer Nation and the HIV/AIDS activism of the early ’90s and beyond.

The war is far from over and they came out on the international sports stage, still a thick steel door. Do you think that may have taken one iota of consideration first, do you think they possibly might have been scared and had to overcome their fears and be brave? Probably so. Gus is being over the top. Like the other guy said on here he hasn’t been out and gay long enough to get it. Most gays are like other people. They just happened to be attracted to the same gender. Gus is making this about Pence who is a grown man who doesn’t get this fawning over behavior or care. I’m not a Pence fan, but if you’re trying to sway him, shouting tired gay slogans from decades ago isn’t going to cut it. Pence is old school and needs more time. Being yourself and competing in the olympics as Gay is convincing enough and helps enough. But trying to prove a point turns others off. And no offense, but isn’t this Gus guy the same one that takes photos of his naked behind and posts them on social media? Hard to take someone like that seriously. Certainly won’t convince Pence. And don’t get me wrong, Gus has a beautiful body and behind and I don’t mind looking, but if you’re also trying to fight a serious cause, those shots don’t help anyone take you seriously. Gus Kenwsorthy is too new as an out gay person. Actually I noticed that as soon as someone announces they’re gay, they’re suddenly really over the top and acting as if they’ve been a lifelong gay fighter. Soon he’ll get tired of it and move on to other things. As he ages, he’ll become less popular. When you don’t have that hard body to entice, people grow less interested unless you have some kind of intellect.
