Guys Getting Naked At Historical Monuments Is The Greatest New Trend

naked-at-monumentsThe ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu has stood without conflict for nearly five centuries, but a group of exhibitionists are determined to change that by riling Peruvian police with some au naturel sightseeing.

The Guardian reports that nude travelers stripping down at the historic site have become so common in the last year that authorities have “been ordered to step up surveillance.” The trend reportedly kicked off last year when a video of two male travelers streaking through the ancient city went viral on YouTube.

The two naked men, a 30-year-old New Zealander and an 18-year-old Australian, were detained and later released, thus inspiring more travelers to join the party, so to speak.

Machu Picchu’s new regional director of culture, Ricardo Ruiz Caro, believes nudists “threaten [the] cultural heritage” of Peru, while the Guardian hypothesizes these folks are “perhaps inspired by its dramatic setting and history of spiritual ceremony.”

A number of new blogs and Facebook pages are documenting the rise in this glorious trend, and we really hope this is just the beginning.
