Those who felt stabbed by Israel Luna’s Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives should know that the film makes it’s world premiere tonight at Tribeca. Forget snagging a ticket—its gonna be a small circus. And Luna’s 11th hour concession will only agitate his critics.
Outside the screening Media Advocates Giving National Equality to Trans People (MAGNET) will hold an educational rally and candlelight vigil. Inside, Luna and his trans-actresses will give a Q&A to fans, critics, and potential buyers. Expect fireworks.
Luna’s already removed all mention of real-life trans-bashing victims from his trailer. But he’s also decided to “blur out” letters in the word “TRANNIES” in “many of” his film’s promotional materials. It’s one-part promotion and one-part concession. But it’s a crumby middleground.
The un-edited title still appears in the film. It still appears on the film’s website and just about everywhere else you Google it. So presumably, his bread-crumb give-in is for the eyes of press agents only. So all that’s left to redeem the title is the film itself. We’ll let you know how it goes as soon as we get out.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
(Also: Doesn’t Luna know to never read blog comments about yourself? Ever.)

For a guy who had the balls to make a movie about disenfranchised members of society, transsexuals, taking control over their oppressors, snaps, he sure pussied out by making the changes.
Put 100 LGBT in a room and ask an opinion and you’ll get a 1000 different points of view. He should go with his own artistic point of view and be proud of it.
Right now, all over the news and blogs, are the complaints about Comedy Central’s censoring of the recent episode of South Park, including great skewering by Comedy Central’s own Jon Stewart.
Attributed to Voltarie but authored by Basil King: “Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid.” That applies equally to transsexuals as well as Luna.

Seems to me it’s the trans folks who DON’T consider themselves a part of the LGB community that are the most pissed. William Bell has written an excellent editorial on how many trans folks (but again those that hang with the gays) use the term themselves.

Sorry to see he wussed out on this one and actually changed the title of his movie. It seems the gays are now totally dancing to the tune of the “T’s” not only legislatively but now artistically as well. I find this rather strange, because most of them consider themselves straight and are insulted to be associated with the gays.

Yeah I’m calling bullshit on this one, in my experience ‘shemale’ is what’s going to set them off. I have found that the ones who do get super hung up on it usually are the ones who hate being ‘trans’. They can’t wait to get SRS and don’t even want you touching their dick if you have sex with them. For me there’s few things hotter than a passable tranny who can get sprung.

Remever when rpiscilla came out Tranny was such a fun term..now the trannies are against it..but I’m still gonna use it…he should have kept in the title.

@niles: Insulted to be associated with us? Are you actually serious? How many trans people do you actually know? Your ignorance is abit pathetic tbh.
