John Boyega previously dismissed any rumors of a Finn/Poe gay Star Wars romance, but now that Episode VIII has started filming, he seems to be changing his tune a bit.
After winning the Rising Star Award at last weekend’s BAFTAS, Boyega seemed to throw a bit of red meat to the Finn/Poe ‘shippers, saying to reporters:
“What’s so funny, I posted a video the other day of myself working out, skipping, and in the background Oscar is just like, ‘Yeah baby go on!’ and people just went crazy.
But as far as I’m concerned when JJ [Abrams] sat us down to go through the script, it was a bromance. But now I’m learning what Mark Hamill said before when he didn’t know that Darth Vader was Luke’s father — you never know what they’re going to pull.”
This is a tiny bit more in line with what Oscar Isaac said on the promo trail for The Force Awakens, when he spoke with Ellen Degeneres about “a subtle romance” that he was playing during certain scenes with Boyega.
Boyega also shared an Instagram post of him getting into Episode VIII shape with a certain cast member cheering him on in the background. Spoiler alert: it’s Oscar Isaac.
Could JJ Abrams and crew be setting the Star Wars universe up for its very first gay relationship? We’d be down for that. After making the most diverse Star Wars flick in history with The Force Awakens, they should go ahead and open it up to the gays as well.
There’ll be plenty of gay-baiting and speculation until Episode VIII opens in late 2017, but if you’re impatient, one google search will open you up to an entire world of Finn/Poe.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

If they’re smart, the execs wont say a word about it and let the speculation play itself out. Let the fans read into the interactions what they will, and let the studios make bank. Win/win.

I thought JJ was not going to be doing any of the new ones

No doubt by now there are at least 100 ‘slash’ stories out there featuring Poe and Finn, so somewhere in the Multiverse it’s going to happen one way or the other.

Sorry but that’s lame. If an organic romance was written into the story that’s one thing but fans trying to dictate where a story goes just because they want to see their version is pretty lame and in the long run ruins the actual story.
I’ve seen it happen rarely but with soap operas for instance the internet has made it possible for fans to dictate story. What you end up with is a horrible mess of nonsense that’s worse than the days of tacky slap fights and padded shoulders.
Fans are not writers. I’d rather have a good story than some stupid ship that takes precedent over the story.

@DarthKitsune: Sci-Fi fans, may they be gay or straight couldn’t care less, it is about “Star Wars” if you know what I mean.

I don’t find either of them sexy. The whole cast lacks sex appeal actually. Not complaining, kind of refreshing actually

Are they just trying to justify creating the film using production tax credits from a country that officially oppresses and murders gay people in the name of forcing religion unto people?
