WHISTLE BLOW JOB

NOM Raving Mad That HRC Used A “Criminal” Whistleblower To Expose Race-Baiting Tactics

The National Organization for (Divine, Divorce-Proof, Heterosexual) Marriage is alleging that the Human Rights Campaign “stole” confidential documents from the IRS with the help of a traitorous “criminal” whistleblower.

How dare that whistleblower leak damning information about NOM’s race-baiting tactics? How dare HRC expose their repugnant plans to set minorities against each another and to recruit dumb celebrities! And who at the IRS can NOM yell at?

So bloggeth Brian Brown, savior of America’s straight marriages/president of NOM:

“It appears that someone with either the IRS or the HRC may have committed a federal crime by illegally obtaining and then releasing a confidential tax return of the National Organization for Marriage. It’s clear that the tax return was stolen, either from NOM or from the government. The Huffington Post article says that HRC claimed they received the document from a ‘whistleblower.’ But the term ‘whistleblower’ is completely inapt. We’re talking about a criminal who has stolen confidential tax return information. We demand to know who this criminal is, whether they work for the HRC or the IRS, and how they obtained confidential tax information filed only with the US government.”

What’s that Machiavelli once said? The ends justify the means?

Oh, and BTW, did Maggie Gallagher get her live bunnies for her Easter feast yet?

    FYI—tax returns are public records

  • Glen

@Glen: Oops….I am sorry I was wrong, they are not public record, but so what. They are just mad because their lovely “christian” organization has been exposed as the lying, hateful, hypocrites that they are.

  • Michael

So… An organization that has been sued in Federal Court and still refuses to abide by the law is complaining about someone breaking the law.

Hmm, let’s place this in the category of “The officials at NOM condemn gay people even though all the officials at NOM are self-loathing gay people.”

What’s next? Is the Catholic Church going to preach about the evils of homosexuality via a pedophile priest?

NOM is upset that someone leaked their Form 990 Schedule B from 2008. This is the document that showed the roundabout way that Mitt Romney donated $10,000 to them in 2008. NOM’s racial strategy was revealed through documents that were legally unsealed as part of their ongoing campaign finance investigation in Maine. It pains me that Queerty would try to pass this post off as even halfway coherent.

I love the lunatics show even more how CRAZY they are!

First, any IRS non profit has to make their tax records public upon demand. If NOM is a non profit, they don’t have a leg to stand on.

Second, they have said that there is nothing embarassing or wrong in the memo — that it wasn’t race baiting afterall. So if they didn’t do anything wrong or unethical, what’s the problem?

Oh wah, get over it NOM, you’re just a bunch of ignorant and hateful cretins. You’re just upset people are exposing you for what you are and the fact that your time is over soon.

Frankly I think they have an internal leak – an INTENTIONAL internal leak. Putting out something that would stir things up a bit since they haven’t been getting much press (or revenue) lately. Then, once it’s out there, they could cry foul and claim they are the victims. Underhanded people do this all the time – sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but you never know until you try.

As a lizard’s tail regenerates, NOM will morph into another form and continue their hate. It’s what they have to offer the world. Hydra is a lap dog compared to Robert P. George and all of his obedient pocket snakes.

Weren’t NOM’s race-baiting tactics exposed in the Maine court case?

I would think the only info gained from NOM’s tax returns would be identities of its donors.

  • Steve

The memos and other records that were released by the court two weeks ago were procured by proper means, or the court would not have released them.

This nonsense about a tax return being “leaked” is just another attempt by NOM to change the subject. They want to play the victim….

I am looking forward to the day when a court (finally) imposes contempt-of-court sanctions on NOM, demanding full accounting of all donations, and holding the assets and officers of NOM until that accounting is provided and audited.

No. 11 · Joetx wrote, “I would think the only info gained from NOM’s tax returns would be identities of its donors.” You can actually get a lot more information than that such as:

    1. How much they pay their staff, particularly their management

    2. Some information about how they allocated the money they have.

Any organized opposition to NOM would want to know what fraction of the money they take in goes to anti-gay activities. Some non-profits spend a good portion of the money they take in on fund raising, and if donors find out that this amount is a high fraction of the total, they get angry and stop giving.

If we the LGBT community can’t marry then hetero’s can’t divorce, sorry Newt.

Tough shit, ain’t it, Brian? Life’s a bitch and you are one. You deserve everything you get – in this life, and in the afterlife when God bitchslaps the fuck out of you.

How is it race-baiting to exploit the very real homophobia that exists in the black community? It’s politics, folks. It’s also the truth. To pretend the homophobia doesn’t exist is to do a disservice to the gay community.

You are the liberals with your collective heads in the sand. The barbarians are amassing at the doorstep and yet you persist in pretending they’re your friends. Such is the delusion of liberal coalition building….

@jason: “How is it race-baiting to exploit the very real homophobia that exists in the black community? It’s politics, folks. It’s also the truth. To pretend the homophobia doesn’t exist is to do a disservice to the gay community.”

    LOL. This is disgustingly ignorant.

First of all, they weren’t just targeting blacks, they were also targeting the Hispanic community. Secondly, it is race baiting considering the fact that you can not accurately say that all Black Americans are homophobic, idiot. Thirdly, it would be an even bigger disservice to the community, and to the world, for a marginalized group to be stupid enough to subject a group of people to the same mistreatment that they were subjected in–such as hasty generalizations.

“You are the liberals with your collective heads in the sand.

And you are the caveman of a conservative who still doesn’t know how to use his head properly. Given a choice between a liberal with the sand drama and you, I’d pick the liberal.

“The barbarians are amassing at the doorstep and yet you persist in pretending they’re your friends.”

If they get in, what’s the difference? There are already barbarians like you within the LGBT community. Racist, conservative queens bring nothing but shame and bitchiness to the community. Ewww.

“Such is the delusion of liberal coalition building….”

Such is the stupidity of the conservatives who seriously need to get laid.

@streetsmart: It is interesting that they assume the “criminal” works for HRC or the IRS and not NOM itself.

  • WillBFair

It makes me sad to see mainstream queers lead around through their emotions. Marraige is the weakest issue we have. We are much stronger on civil unions and enda, which should be our top priorities. Our enemies have chosen marraige to weaken our movement, and, as usual, the ghetto crowd have chosen a self defeating agenda. Again, it’s sad.

  • Patsy Stoned

Brown should be more concerned with his own criminal behavior. Trying to hide NOM’s unethical behavior from various states is what got them into this (well-deserved) mess. This douche is just yelling so people don’t pay attention to the man behind the curtain — it won’t work (except for some racist assholes on both sides of the issue). I hope he keeps screaming about this so nobody forgets the nasty and underhanded behavior of this repugnant organization.

  • Cam

They have broken the law by refusing multiple court orders to turn over their donor lists.

So Karma is a bitch huh guys?

Also, notice how they are very careful NOT to mention just WHAT the whistleblower turned over? Don’t want a repeat of all those stories again. lol

  • Robert in NYC

@randy: That is correct. It’s a 501c4 nonprofit. I used to work for a 501c3 nonprofit and our 990s were always available to the public upon demand with the required donor list attached which is what this is realy about. Brown is petrified that the donor list will now become officially public which might make donors wary about giving them any more big bucks.
