After reportedly defending a gay friend who was being harassed in a bar, one of the Kennedys has found himself in legal hot water.
Conor Kennedy, 22, grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, was arrested shortly after the scuffle, which took place at the Bootsy Bellows nightclub in Aspen, Colorado.
The Aspen Times reports that the brawl began when a group of men began harassing Kennedy’s gay friend with antigay slurs.
According to reports, Kennedy asked the men to apologize, and that’s when things got physical.
How about we take this to the next level?

The Harvard rugby player was subsequently arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, and his father Robert F. Kennedy told the Aspen Times that he was proud of his son for sticking up for his friend:
Conor has always reacted against bullying. I’m happy he stood up for his friend.
I’m very sorry it turned into a police incident, [Conor’s] not liking the attention.”
Kennedy’s representatives later issued another statement:
Multiple witnesses to the incident have reported that two men assaulted Conor Kennedy after he rebuked them for directing a homophobic slur and threats to his close friend.
They also report that Mr. Kennedy was cooperative, compliant and respectful toward the police from the moment they arrived on the scene.
Mr. Kennedy looks forward to a full airing of the incident.”
Police are reportedly “following up” on the allegations that homophobia started the brawl.
DDstar1me
Yaasss…vidal Sassoon honey. He’s kinda cute. Good for him for taking a stand against bullying.
Heywood Jablowme
Good for Conor, but the Kennedys really need to stay away from booze. It makes them lose their looks and become fat & stupid. (Also bad drivers, lol.) Conor’s dumbfuck bad-driver Uncle Patrick has become a crazy anti-“drug” warrior ranting & raving against marijuana legalization – fortunately the voters of Rhode Island and Massachusetts think he’s ridiculous.
Kennedys should get STONED!
ChrisK
Um I don’t think his father is Robert F Kennedy since he be dead.
pudman56
I really wish people would pay attention when they read, especially if they’re going to comment. This statement is taken directly from the above article.
“grandson of Robert F. Kennedy” Yes, I give you that another sentence said only “his father, Robert F. Kennedy” that was missing the Jr., but the name is still technically the name of his father. Had you paid closer attention, instead of latching onto one vague typo to basically bash the elder Kennedy sons, you should have assumed it was Bobby Kennedy’s son who was Conor’s son. And boy, did he inherit the good looking genes plus. Just to be sure, I googled. That’s a search engine. What’s a search engine? It’s generally in the upper right corner of the page.
Heywood Jablowme
@ChrisK: His father is Robert F. Kennedy JUNIOR the noted vaccine “expert” and fear-monger.
BriBri
Drunkards and Kennedys, what a surprise. They have a listing in the thesaurus. That family is total trash, always have been.
pudman56
I think you pinched your nipples a little too hard. Kennedy was defending his friend against bullies. NOWHERE in the story does it even come close to saying Conor was drunk. Like all misinformed right-wingers, your comment was just baseless not to mention close minded not to mention just plain stupid. If that is you in the picture, don’t try to think after you’ve pinched yourself to near ecstasy.
money718
Who cares. Plenty of people defends gays everyday.
PeterPiperBoy
@BriBri: I beg to differ on that argument!
pudman56
Thank You for that little reminder to people who aren’t going to believe you anyway.
PeterPiperBoy
@money718: We should all care! If we don’t–who will?
GameBoy
Fighting for a gay friend? No wonder Taylor Swift left him.
Paco
Was the homophobe that took a swing at Kennedy arrested as well?
Kieran
If more gays fought back the way Conor Kennedy did, we’d have fewer people making homophobic slurs. Let’s hope Conor gets into politics. We could use him.
GayEGO
@ChrisK: Good point, he was his grandpa! I was on a plane from Boston to Boise when I heard that Robert Kennedy passed away.
GayEGO
@BriBri: At least they supported us!
PoetDaddy
Homophobic bullies should be gelded on the spot. Fucking useless wastes of molecules.
Josh447
Welcome to Trumpville,USA. Put on your corsets and your boxing gloves fellas “it’s going to be a bumpy night”.
NCSilverBear
Good for Connor. I hope the family sues the police department. What kind of response does the “gay friend” have to all of this?
davidjohng
@GameBoy: What does that mean? Are you saying because he defended his friend he is gay, or there is something wrong with a str8 guy defending a gay man? The Kennedy’s are institutional liberals and so I imagine growing up the kids are “indoctrinated” in supporting the underdog. Good for them and I’d like to see more str8 guys stand-up to homophobia and defend gay men.
RamblingManNJ
Kudos to Connor, but the friend also needed to stick up for himself.
Paco
According to the Aspen Times – “Police spoke to Robert Kennedy and Conor Kennedy later Thursday about the incident, Linn said. However, no one has contacted Aspen police claiming to have been menaced or threatened for being gay, he said.”
Umm… where did the gay friend that was being bullied disappear to? If a friend got arrested for defending me, I would be at the police station giving a statement about what happened.
ss2509
PoetDaddy my ass. You’re just as bad as bullies when you call for gelding. You are a homo hypocrite. Ha!
Baba Booey Fafa Fooey
@Paco: Maybe the guy wasn’t gay, they just used gay slurs against a straight guy? Idk. Good point, as usual. 🙂
Paco
@Baba Booey Fafa Fooey: Or maybe the gay friend is being coached by Kennedy’s lawyers before he goes to the police. Just seems strange that this incident is being reported to be about homophobic bullying, but there is no gay person, so far.
Baba Booey Fafa Fooey
@Paco: Very true and possible.
Mundo
@BriBri: and you are an idiot! People have problems
and the Kennedy family who have had their share of tragedies are no different.
Aunt Sharon
@Paco: You can assume that the friend gave a statement when the police arrived. A Kennedy is a celebrity and gets reported to the exclusion if the friend. GAY MAN INSULTED IN BAR is not a headline.
He BGB
So was he the only one arrested? The article makes it sound like he was the hero and got arrested? So were the 2 homophobe baddies sent home without their supper while Kennedy was arrested? But he’s so Raquel with that wild mane of hair! It comes right at you like his aunt or cousin’s used to when she was a tv reporter (Arnolds ex wife).
Kangol
Go Kennedys! And Conor, the next drink is on me!
dgsea06
I like his hair.
Tête Carrée
@ss2509:
If you love homophobic bullies so much, why don’t you marry one? Or maybe you are one.
Terrycloth
love the hair just needs coming. I would feel proud of my friend for sticking up for me , as I can defend myself .speaks volumes to his upbringing and his character as a human being…everyone should have such a caring friend.im sure he wouldn’t of taken any crap if it was girl/woman being harassed. Either
Juanjo
It just amuses me like crazy to see Baba Jerkoff and Paco NoPoint trying really hard to turn this very simple story into a diatribe against the Kennedys. Baba’s words are particularly amusing given his comments yesterday about homophobia. I am just surprised he hasn’t claimed the attackers were Muslims as yet.
jkthsnk
@PeterPiperBoy: First, get a grown up name. Second Israel, healtcare, charitable giving and anyone who has ever met Caroline Schlossberg are collectively telling you you’re f’n mistaken.
jkthsnk
Replied to bri bri not you little perter no no, condolences.
Paco
@Juanjo: It’s “no point” to point out that the original article has the police saying that “no one has contacted Aspen police claiming to have been menaced or threatened for being gay,”.
How is pointing out that odd inconsistency in anyway a diatribe against the Kennedys? Either the police aren’t being truthful or the gay friend hasn’t been very forthcoming with the police, if at all.
cabe
This is one reason why gay bars still play an important role in the gay community. I have also been harassed at a straight bar and don’t always feel comfortable in that environment. Granted, all bars and different ans serve different types of people but the day that I can go to a straight bar and queen it up w/out fearing for my life is the day that I say we no longer need gay bars.
Curtispsf
@Juanjo: I LOVE the names Baba Jerkoff and Paco NoPoint.
GameBoy
@davidjohng: No, it was shade to taylor swift for being homophobic witch she is..
Paco
@Curtispsf: Thanks for the off topic commentary, Curtis OftenOffTopic.
Ryan Field
I think it’s great that Kennedy is against bullying and that he defended his friend. But I’d also like to see more about the gay guy that beats the hell out of the straight guy for gay slurs. Some of us can defend ourselves. I’ve done it before and I’d kick ass again for a friend or for myself.
patricklee5150
What’s with so many hateful comments on here? Sounds like we’ve got a bunch of Trump trolls on here. Conor Kenedy sounds like a real stand up, decent guy and a good friend. His gay friend was being verbally assaulted and he stood up for him. Nowhere in the story does it say anything about him being drunk. So, why all the hateful comments about him and all the Kennedys being drunks, etc. If you need to trash talk a public figure, please aim you attacks at somebody truly deserving….namely President elect Orange turd!
Carole
I think it’s just refreshing to hear something good out of the Kennedys for a change. And it does speak volumes about his morals and upbringing and his friendship. That being said, his gay friend does need to speak up, to police if he hasn’t already and I think to reporters also to spotlight a good Kennedy for a change. However, it did say Mr. Kennedy looks forward to a full airing of the incident so I’m sure there’s more to the story. Also, about his hair. That pic was a mugshot right after he’d been in a fight. They don’t let you fix yourself up before they take those. I’m sure when he first got to the bar he had combed and styled it perfectly!
Ron62
Maybe Connor plays for our team. Perhaps he can “pass” and his friend could not, which is why the slurs were directed at his friend, and not at Connor.
Dakotahgeo
@PoetDaddy: Thank you! And that should be just for starters!
Dakotahgeo
@patricklee5150: Thank you… another name comes to id: Anus Orange! Has a worse effect the original Agent Orange!
Juanjo
@Paco: well no Paco NoPoint. We have your claim of that being the case. And whether or not t the time of the news article you quote there was a report filed by someone or not, it does not mean this kid was lying. It just means you are assuming that it is a fabrication.
Juanjo
@Paco: Awww, Paco NoPoint needs a safe space folks. His self image is suffering.
Paco
@Juanjo: Not sure what I said to earn any crap from you. I guess you enjoy making sh*t up? Point out where I called Kennedy a liar. Questioning why the police are claiming that no one involved in the incident has contacted them claiming to have been harassed for being gay, has triggered you for some reason, and I don’t understand why. Bad day?
seaguy
WTF why were the harassers not the ones busted for a hate crime?
everybodywinsyay
Did anyone actually read the story for Aspen Times? Kennedy was the ass*ole here, fighting others and then coming up with an excuse later. Then this site picks it up like gospel truth. You’re all so needy here for narratives.
Sluggo2007
This happened at Bootsy Bellows nightclub in Aspen, Colorado? The name alone makes it sound like a gay club.
Mo Bro
If Kennedy’s actions were in fact heroic, why was he charged with a crime?
(I’m suspecting someone will eventually attribute it as being Trump’s fault)
n1spirit
@Josh447: Get the hell over it already; you lost. I’m a gay man who has his reservations about Donald Trump but you know what?? Comments such as yours DO NOTHING to improve the situation. If you must, then please continue to feel victimized, Josh. JUST DO IT IN PRIVATE. As for this gay man (myself), I’m nobody’s goddamned victim and while I may not be convinced the next four years will be easy or bring what I’d like, I’ll get through Trump’s term the same way I’ve gotten through the last 53 years….. With my head held high and putting one foot in front of the other, speaking about issues that are important to me that I CAN effect change around —- and holding my damn tongue on those I can’t change and needn’t expend any energy upon.
Mark
Kennedy bashing is SOOOO 1980s. Get over yourselves, and tell me what huge philanthropic, socially aware family with no flaws are YOUR heroes.
Ken A.
Any friend who sticks up for me is my hero. I hope his friend sticks by him through this debacle I hope these charges are thrown out. What an unflattering picture. Did they have to post the mug shot and not some flattering school pic or something.
Danny279
Was the gay friend an old woman? Or maybe someone in a wheel chair? Because if not, you really have to wonder why the “gay friend” doesn’t get off his @ss and defend himself. And why he didn’t back up Kennedy when Kennedy went over to those guys on his behalf. He is probably an effeminate coward who sat there and let a real man do his fighting for him, while he ran to the bathroom to check on his makeup.
GayEGO
@BriBri: What’s the matter Bri…he wouldn’t give you a BJ?
dgsea06
Mark! Superb comment! Wow, a 22-year old Kennedy. being a Kennedy. Defending a frend, and at least, not getting assinated for it. Maybe there’s hope after all.
Josh447
@n1spirit: Whether one is for or against Trump, my statement could come from either. It never hurts to acknowledge what’s going on right under one’s nose. It doesn’t mean we don’t hold our heads up high. In fact, it can bid us to straighten our ties and shine our shoes. You seem to be doing a lot of anger projecting. Does my statement make you think you are the one lonely man holding his head up high and others don’t?
It’s true. It is going to be a “bumpy night”. Can’t you handle the truth? Sure you can. But you seem a bit nervous. Get over it.
DarkZephyr
Jesus H Christ. Almost every single time I post a queerty article link to a group, I always pray to God that are straight allies never read the damn comment section. They would come away thinking that many gays are a bunch of fucking assholes link to a group, I always pray to God that are straight allies never read the damn comment section. They would come away thinking that many gays are a bunch of f***ing a**holes who are snarky and cruel even to those that stand up for us. Even those whining about how this isn’t an article about a gay man who stood up for himself. Look, sure, many gay men are perfectly capable of standing up for themselves and fights. Most of us are these days. However, we still need our allies and we will need them more now than we have in a long time. We won’t be OK if we flounder by ourselves. As was pointed out in another comment, this is Trump’s America.
DarkZephyr
@DarkZephyr: our*. And I see that speech to text repeated some of the lines I tried to post. Yay. No edit feature.
Tête Carrée
@RamblingManNJ:
That’s easy for you to say; you’re a burly hunk (if that’s your real photo).
Several people have said this. What if the guy is 5’5″ and the two (yes there were 2, did anybody read the article?) guys were… your triplet brothers? Death wish?
