Though he won’t name the staffer who left the comment, Sen. Saxby Chambliss says the Senate aide who posted “all faggots must die” on the blog Joe.My.God has been fired. He called the blogger, Joe Jervis, to offer his apologies: “I don’t know if you’re Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, but none of that should matter. Because what was said on your blog by someone from my office is just not acceptable, no matter who is saying it and who it’s being said to. I just want to offer my sincerest apologies.” In a statement, Chambliss says, “Regardless of one’s position on issues and policies, such comments are simply unacceptable, are not befitting those who work in the U.S. Senate, and I will not tolerate them from my staff.” And yet Andrew Shirvell still has a job, yahoo!
all apologies

This is quite a surprising apology from a senator who got elected by implying that his opponent (war hero Max Cleland) was gay.

How can we have his statement validated if he will not release the name?
Peter
To clarify, Chambliss did NOT say he was fired. He said he was REMOVED. This means that he was not a staffer directly employed by Chambliss. Instead, it means he may or may not have been military personnel or based in some other area within D.C. and has been relocated to another position. Until the person is named and they have unequivocally explained their termination, we should not be assuaged.
whatever
Will GOProud hold a dinner in Cracka Chambliss’ honor?
Hyhybt
@Peter: Within DC? The message came from his offices in Georgia.

So all we have to do to identify the pillock who did this is check for recent staffing changes at Chambliss’s office. Simples!

Typical Southern Bigot reponse.
“No matter what your opinions are, that shouldn’t have been said”. Meaning, that even though he completely agrees with it, one should never be so foolish as to parade your bigotry out in public where you can get caught.
As for a staffer being “Removed” the fact that he isn’t releasing the name means that they are protecting him, and removed most likely means that they have transfered him to another office, or gotten one of his buddies to hire him as it was most likely the son of a wealthy donor.

@hephaestion:
I may be naive (and if anyone thinks I am, a post to that effect would be a more productive way to tell me than a “thumbs down” to this post) but I would LIKE to believe than even a bigot can genuinely condemn a statement that “all [insert group of choice] must die”.
If we can acknowledge that there are many criminals who find murder unacceptable, why would we not acknowledge that there are some bigots who feel quite comfortable in promoting discrimination but nevertheless draw the line at murder?
