Cabaret crooner Seth Sikes has returned with his latest video, a tribute to the queerness of Fire Island and the music of Judy Garland.
“Howdy Gaybor” morphs the Garland standard “Howdy Neighbor” from her film Summer Stock into a full-on gay anthem. Of course, given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic–and reports of some not-so-socially distant parties on Fire Island–Sikes also uses the opportunity to comment on socializing amid masked men. He also tips off island goers to the increased police presence there, and the possibility of ticketing anyone who forgot a mask.

“Gorgeous boys are comin’. Every single pool will be full of bears & otters chummin,'” Sikes sings. “Zip up your jeans till those queens get good vaccines!”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
That’s probably good advice. Frankly, we’re still not sure why some of these guys are not wearing masks in the video. We would easily don a mask if it meant heading out to Fire Island to meet our gaybors.

Completely aside from the visuals, that voice is phenomenal. I worship at the shrine of Garland, and fans are hard to please, but he is channeling her vocal styling and technique in a way that feels uncalculated, and without losing his own sense of authenticity and presence. I gotta give him his due.

Seth Sikes is a terrific singer and this video is a lot of fun. Looking forward to more.
