THE SHOT – Between the hours of 8:30pm and 9:00pm last night, some industrious person at North Carolina State University took time out of their busy academic schedule to decorate the campus GLBT center with violet graffiti and the words “Fags burn” and “DIe.” Campus police will look at surveillance footage so they can find and congratulate the mystery student for his excellent design skills and penmanship. Meanwhile Adam Ward, graduate adviser for the GLBT Center, has promised a big community rally to show their support for whoever did this. See? Hate really does bring people together—thanks random vandal!

This is what happens when elected officials are allowed and celebrated for hate speech in the general assembly.

Maybe I am reading this wrong but “…the GLBT Center, has promised a big community rally to show their support for whoever did this.”
What? The GLBT Center is going to gather to show support for anti-gay vandal…?

Am I the only one who thinks this looks SO photoshopped? The textures where the paint hits the surfaces is all the same, as are the angles and dimensions of the “paint marks” (especially noticeable on the door).

@Sean: My boyfriend goes to NCState. Sadly, it’s real.

@Greenluv1322:
Hey! Isn’t this the same university where Obama spoke one day after the state assembly voted to allow the majority to amend gay people out of their constitution and make sure those faggots know that North Carolina won’t tolerate even second-class relationships for homos? A NC law professor said the amendment “could still interfere with existing child custody and visitation rights and invalidate trusts, wills and end-of-life directives…”
Remember how President Fierce Advocate seized the opportunity to condemn such outright bigotry?
Oh right. He just ignored the issue.
The next day Obama had his press secretary issue a lame statement about how he “believes strongly” that laws shouldn’t take rights away, but which also reiterated Obama’s bizarre “state’s-rights” argument that it’s entirely proper for “States [to] determine for themselves how best to uphold the rights of their own citizens.”
Which in North Carolina, is taking rights away — which doesn’t merit any objection from Obama, despite his “strong beliefs.”

@LandStander: I think your sarcasm detector is malfunctioning…

@Sean: As a junior at NC State, I know that this is NOT photoshopped. It’s a sad reality at our university….

I go to NCSU, and actually just got out of a GLBTCA meeting about this a few minutes ago. Vice Chancellor spoke about how this is absolutely not the school’s opinion. (I’m sure the Chancellor himself would have if he weren’t currently in China.)
Also, they have narrowed down the time of the occurrence to between 9:10 and 9:20, not the times listed in this article. I heard this firsthand from the woman who works in this office.
I’m betting this act was motivated by last week’s events. “I <3 Diversity" t-shirts (the heart was rainbow) were passed out on Coming Out day and everyone wore them on Friday. Probably seemed a little too tolerant to some of the many rednecks on campus.
It made me a little sad, more than anything, to know of this vandalism, but it was taken down less than 2 hours after it was put up and the rest of the time NCSU is great. Still, the overall atmosphere of NC is still one of sufficient intolerance that I plan to leave the state, and very possibly the country, at the conclusion of my college career.
And to clarify, the rally is definitely not in support of the vandal, but is against it. Tomorrow there will even be a full page ad in the school newspaper against the vandal(s).

Fair enough. Nitwit rant starting…
Of course a Republican president would be worse. Under some of the Reps, gays wouldn’t just be denied equal rights, we would be outright fucking persecuted. With a bat-shit crazy lineup of frothing-at-the-mouth anti-gay Republicans (like the ones running for head of state now) in charge, laws could be passed that would make your head spin and your cock wilt. It’s been done a million times over, too… anyone who’s read a history book about how gays have been treated in the past can tell you about the countless times in human history where politicians have tried to outright ban gayness in the name of “public decency” or “social morality”, with disastrous (for us) consequences. At the very least, the Dems won’t try to pull that kind of shit, even if they are a withered noodle of a sword in our defense. So, go ahead, criticize Obama; I won’t stop you, and, fuck, I may even chime in. Just don’t go spouting off little asides implying gays in the states would be better off with people who hate them in charge.

Maybe he was rushed and meant to write:
“Fags burn calories”
and “Diet”
in protest of America’s obesity epidemic but just didn’t have the time?
