Worried we gays won’t approve of his violent tendencies, MSNBC’s Tucker Carlson and his flacks released the following statement.
Let me be clear about an incident I referred to on MSNBC last night: In the mid-1980s, while I was a high school student, a man physically grabbed me in a men’s room in Washington, DC. I yelled, pulled away from him and ran out of the room. Twenty-five minutes later, a friend of mine and I returned to the men’s room. The man was still there, presumably waiting to do to someone else what he had done to me. My friend and I seized the man and held him until a security guard arrived.
Several bloggers have characterized this is a sort of gay bashing. That’s absurd, and an insult to anybody who has fought back against an unsolicited sexual attack. I wasn’t angry with the man because he was gay. I was angry because he assaulted me.
That’s not quite the story Carlson told last night. He told the world he “Hit him against the stall with his head.” Now he’s saying he and his friend “held him”. What, can’t you get your own story straight, Carlson?

okay, FIRST OFF, this scenario in the 1980’s? are you serious… during the height of AIDS? grown men going about attacking people in bathrooms? isn’t that similar to the “fear” rumors like “there was this one guy, he went to the movies, and he sat down and got stung, and he got up, and it was a needle with a note that said ‘you now have AIDS’.”
SECOND, this story constitutes as attempted rape and would hardly be categorized as a “bothered” situation. Tucker should have called the police, had him arrested, filed charges, etc. etc. etc.
THIRD, he clearly stated on TV that he and his friend bashed the guy’s head against the wall… which is not “seizing the man and held him”.
FOURTH, here he states a security guard, on TV he said “the police” and the guy was “arrested”.
FIFTH, anyone who has JUST been sexually assaulted would not go back to the scene of the crime unless it was to exact revenge. the proper procedure would be to call the police and give the location and description of the man.
this is the WORST case of backpedaling i’ve seen since… well… i have to go with Bob Allen.

Carlson is just SO pitiful. He wants to come across like the tough guy, so he tells a story about “beating up a fag”. Then when he gets called on it, he backpedals ASAP…
He must have been REALLY scared to go back there and try to beat the guy up. If he had been attacked like he said, I don’t think he woulda gone back.

Daily Dish andrew Sullivan seemed to be calling BULLSH*T on Tucker’s story.
I figure it shouldn’t be hard to validate or prove false. tucker’s High School Years from 15-18yo are 1984-1987. He attended a boarding school in Rhode Island so it’d have to be holiday break weeks or summer months.
Tucker did change his story from the one he stated on Abram’s Show where he said cops arrested the assailant, in his written record he says he and his friend held the man and turned him over to a SECURITY GUARD.
It should be easy to find out if Georgetown Park had security guards.
I agree with Andrew this story smells of BULLSH*T, maybe Washington Blade can find the Georgetown Records.

Tucker’s recollection of the Halcion Days when his naivete was brutally ripped from his life.
It was one of those glorious rare Autumn evenings exactly 20 years ago, when a young man is simply driven to linger in Georgetown Park’s restroom. This gentleman, well you could hardly call him a gentleman, he was wearing a white cheap t-shirt AFTER Labor Day.
He had the thugish audacity to put his tapping foot under the stall divider, well I can tell you I ran and ran as if the devil himself was chasing me, and I had on my brand new Weejuns, and developed a dreadful blister on my pristine dancing feet. Fortunately the man Daddy hired for my Cha Cha Lessons was also lingering in the Park, and I pleaded my rightous anger and he left his secluded spot under the bridge, and we marched back to that Nasty Naughty Bad Boy Bathroom. I grabbed my assailant by his inappropriate t-shirt which clung to his manly torso, and slammed, I tell you slammed that piece of man eye-candy up against the wall, and eloquently gave him a very large piece of my mind. My Cha Cha coach saved my life that night and he insisted on walking me safely back to Daddy’s mansion.
I don’t know what would have become of my cherry little tushie if that coach wasn’t so brave and in touch with my plight.

It looks like ms. carlson has be caught in a little web of deceit which makes me wonder what really happened.
There are about 6 parts of this story that don’t jive and I would love it if someone really were able to follow through.
More than reminding me a Bob Allen, this response is more in line with the Miss Teen USA chick who was asked about finding the US on a map.

After calling the police, did the actually ‘advise’ him to go back vigilante-style and put himself and a friend at risk?
For a ‘journalist’ his story has a lot of holes.
