SOUNDBITES — “We did not lose anything yesterday. We failed to gain something. There’s a sodding great difference, isn’t there? New York State has never allowed same-sex marriage. Yesterday the New York State Senate voted on a bill intended to change that aspect of the law. The bill did not pass, so the law did not change.” —Blogger Hugh Yeman, who’s tired of the “the predictable chorus of ‘Fuck New York'”

What a nitwit.
Attmay
They voted against us. They will vote against us until we put pressure on both parties.
MeetAdamAndSteve
This is a good day. First I got posted on Queerty and then I found out that, after years of physical and mental struggles, I have finally moved up from “douchebag” to “nitwit”.
MeetAdamAndSteve
Attmay, I agree 100%.
terrwill
they will vote against us because we are the biggest
revenue generator for both parties. The rightwing-nutbag
zealots can’t whip out their checkbooks fast enough when
one of their false idols pleads for “funds to fight the fags”
and “prevent their deviant lifestyle from spreading”…..
The Gays are their cash cow. They can’t publicly slam the
blacks, jews, hispanics any longer. The Gays are the only
still accepted scapegoat…………
MeetAdamAndSteve
TERRWILL, about gays being the only still accepted scapegoat: you hit the nail on the head. If I had to distill my motivation for being an ally down to one sentence, that would be it. And it’s the answer to the questions like “Why gay rights, instead of cause XYZ?” and “Why would you waste time on things like gay marriage when there are XYZ things wrong with this country?”. I’ll tell you why. Because we are all lessened by the grotesque contortions required to pretend that gay people don’t exist, or to build pseudo-logical constructions to justify hating them.
HiredGoons
We failed to gain what we should already have.
Jude
Adam, read the entire post and a few others on this blog.
HiredGoons. Agreed. But we don’t have it. I encourage you to contact your representatives relentlessly on every piece of legislation, write letters to newspapers, challenge the opposition.
Queerty, nice job of taking a quote out of context.

@ Jude:
Are suggesting “lobbying?” That’s stupid. HRC has spent $500 million lobbying and we have nothing to show for it. Nothing.
Talk to your neighbors and friends. Get them to understand. Until we do that there will be NO political solution.
Polls matter, not politicians. When we are ahead in the polling, the politicians will follow – or they’ll lose their jobs.
