I’m not torn between feeling they should have known better and feeling sorry for them. I’m genuinely pissed off. I’m tired of living in a nation where we have the gall to think that what people do in their personal lives has any affect what-so-ever on what they do in their professional lives. The fact that the boys jerked it on the net has NOTHING to do with their ability to wrestle. Therefore, they shouldn’t have been removed for jerking off. We need to stop stigmatizing porn stars and other “undesirables” because of their personal decisions. I don’t care who you are, who you screw, what your views are, and who video tapes you screwing that person as long as when you show up to work you don’t bring it with you and you do your job better than the person that could be replacing you. The fact that we allow people’s personal lives to influence our decisions on rather they can do their job or not helps to destroy our economy. If we aren’t taking the best person for the job because he jerks on film, but instead are taking someone extremely less qualified because he is a saint then we are not making the best decisions for our company.

Personal and professional lives are not separate. We are single human entities. Carrie Prejean is, as an individual, a stupid, rude jerk. Her job was to be an “ambassador” of sorts. Stupid, rude jerks don’t make good ambassadors. She was fired. Her personal failures negatively impacted her ability to perform to contract standards.
If these young men did something that is against the school’s code of conduct, they should bear the consequences of their behavior.

@Ajax: Prejean is a perfect example. If you want to claim that her views on gay marriage are part of her personal life than that should not get her fired. That isn’t the reason she was fired. She was fired because she couldn’t bother to show up for appearances which is part of her professional life. As long as you show up and do the job better than everyone else it doesn’t matter what you do when you aren’t at the job. The school’s code of conduct needs changed. Employers/schools shouldn’t be allowed to make rules that govern the lives of their employees/students as that is what the government is for.

So my question then is , “Whatever happened to working in the library or the local fast-food joint, like so many of us worked through in college?” It was a given, “poor college students.” These kids grew up in the internet-era, don’t tell me that they didn’t know that it would have been exposed eventually. What were they smoking when they did those tapes? Or maybe they did those tapes so they could be “smoking”. Sorry, no sympathy here. @Bitch, please!: What happened to making minimum wage and trying to support yourself on it and going to school and being involved in sports at the same time is basically what you are asking. The fact is, they made more money jerking it once on camera than they would in a month of minimum wage work. Also, this is like saying that the mother who works at the strip joint to support her kids is a bad parent. I thought we had land mark cases to prevent that kind of bigotry. Actually, I believe because this is a state institution and the kids were just exercising their freedom of speech (jerking it on camera is freedom of speech as far as I’m concerned) that they should file a civil case against the school on this violation.

@Tank: That is complete and utter bull. For starters, there are perfectly good mothers that take their clothes off. Hell, my cousin was a mother of 5 and she stripped for extra money. All her kids turned out better than normal. I think its completely hypocritical to say that just because the mother made some mistakes that it would scar the children. Its kind of close minded and bigoted. I really hope you have never been (and never will be) in a spot where you really had to do all that it takes to survive, but its amazing how quickly you can rewrite your moral codes when it comes down to where you or your child will get their next meal from. I think that the United States just overly stigmatizes sexuality. Sexuality is not a big deal. We tend to make it larger than it is. These boys are wrestlers, so they deal in violence in an every day job, but that is alright because that is just violence. However, let them jerk it on camera and we should all call for their heads.

@ galefan2004: If you are promoting getting money by being “easy” they sure did that! As college athletes they most likely had scolarships, free housing, and free meals. That, with whatever they got through financial aid, and an income from a part-time job would have been enough, while living as a a “college student”. But many students want to live large and party every weekend and end up living outside their means. As I said in my post earlier, while in school it is okay to be a “poor college student.”

They’ll survive this – it’s not like their lives were ruined & they didn’t do anything illegal, so big deal. I remember winning an amateur strip contest when I was about their age (pre-internet, yeah, I’m that old) – that was when I learned to NEVER give your real name if you don’t have an unlisted number. I was in school on academic scholarships and made the dean’s list every semester, so I wouldn’t say I was ‘dumb’… but I wasn’t very savvy.
