CNN, the oldest of the cable news networks, is having some troubles lately. Namely, nobody is tuning in to watch their network. Instead, viewers are opting for the partisan banter on either Fox News or MSNBC, which is a shame, because CNN has been all over this Haiti thing. And its star Anderson Cooper is a lifesaving hero.
With reporters roving through Haiti’s rubble, we’re now getting stories back about the “looting” that’s taking place. It’s Hurricane Katrina all over again: People of color loot; everyone else is just borrowing supplies to stay live. And it’s that phenomenon, where Haitians find themselves without basic food staples, that led the bloody scene Cooper showcased last night.
Cam
The problem is, for four days now CNN has abdicated all news reporting to show a continual stream of all Hati all the Time. It is a horrific story and I’m happy that help is flowing there, but CNN, when they latch onto something litterally acts like the rest of the world no longer exists.
Cam
Oh, but have to ad in. Great job by Cooper on the rescue!
AlwaysGay
OMG! The savagery on display! This is why aid workers are afraid giving out aid. The Haitians are making the situation worse with this foolish behavior. What’s ironic is they want food and water yet are running around like cats.
CooperComeOUt
I guess his muscles came in handy after all…
WtF!
How must it feel coming from staying in suites that cost $3,200 with his gay-bar owner bf to be on the streets of Port-au-Prince?
TheProfessor
@No.3: Running around like cats???? They’re desperate, you insensitive buffoon. Let’s see YOU react in a massive earthquake. Guess imbecility has nothing to do with sexuality.
romeo
@ AlwaysGay: There’s been no food or water in most of the city since the quake. You think a bunch of middle-class white people wouldn’t be running around “like cats” under those circumstances, with their sense of entitlement? I have news for you, they’d be acting a hell of a lot worse.
And none of the journalists are staying in hotel suites down there. There are no hotels now!
Cooper’s doing a terrific job. Really standup.
Fitz
Wow, uncle Tom is a hero!
As far as the locals.. PLEASE.. they are fighting to survive minute to minute. I was there for our local “bigish” quake in 89, where we still had water and sometimes even electricity. People get afraid and quickly become survivalists. I won’t bitch about someone stealing a bucket to get some water in.
dontblamemeivotedforhillary
Haiti overdose. Meanwhile, the Republic is about to lose Health Care. Anderson, come back! We miss the rest of the news…
Josh
I can’t believe the racism on this site.
These people aren’t savages. They are trying to survive. Anderson qualified that so far this looting/violence was an isolated incident.
We need to see what is going on there. So many people (including children) are dead or dying.
Many people are having limbs amputated.
Their society/government has been destroyed by the earthquake. Most of the schools and hospitals have been destroyed too.
Anderson did a good thing by helping the injured boy.
Michael W.
Here comes the chaos. I knew it was only a matter of time before the animals started eating each other.
Soon we’ll be hearing about murders and gang rapes. Haiti will make Katrina look like a Pixar movie.
dontblamemeivotedforhillary
TV ratings have plummeted. Just sayin’ Keep the horror to the news hour, children are watching!

Josh, be careful about misusing that word. There was nothing in the other persons statement about race. He was commenting on his opinion about how the looters were acting. Making the comment about race and not about ignorance about on the ground situations in Hati diminishes it and is a cop out.
dontblamemeivotedforhillary
Josh did come across as a knee-jerk simpleton. It was about human behavior, not race. We should have criticized USAid’s poor initial response while they’re having meetings with the White House and the truth about the General who said that the it should have been a military operation from Day One. I prefer the term Hungry People to Looters! Having said that, I have stopped watching the looped horror show for self-preservation!
Eric
impossible to watch the CNN video because of the STUPID VIDEO ADS that Queerty has on now – which are impossible to stop or lower the volume on. What’s up with the video ads Queerty??
sal(the original)
@TheProfessor AMEN.This is a moment we should all thank the lucky stars we are blessed to not be in this HORRIFIC kinda situation, basically your world being turned upside down while some tools biggest worry is that cnn is focusing too much on your continuing suffering.people this is called SURVIVING A DISASTER
sal(the original)
and to the tool boy who cried wolf talking bout “racism!!!!” please stop reducing real racism to this shit ,thank you….
John from England(used to be just John but there are other John's)
And a big hug to the lovely Queerty commenters! Smile! đ

It almost appears that CNN has done more for the people of Haiti that our US Government.
Tricky
Love all of you Monday Morning Quarterbacks reacting to the people of Haiti. The sane among us know that most Americans would be totally unprepared for a situation such as this, but that is because we take for granted that we live in the best country in the world. It is hard to say how we would react to this type of travesty, but I can assure you that most of us would not be waiting patiently in line for food and supplies.
mk
CNN has done a great job covering this. And it is really IS a continuing story – the problems getting aid in, the lack of organization, the near disappearance of the government of Haiti, etc.
You can bet Anderson is going to be there for a while yet. This is the kind of work and coverage he’s always been passionate about. CNN has other people who can cover the current domestic issues.
scott ny'er
wow. Anderson is like Superman. Kudos to him for DOING something. I hope things get better for Haiti peeps.
Oh and an example of Americans acting idiotic. Thing back to the New Orleans and the surrounding vicinity and Hurricane Katrina.
Marty
Anderson’s really kicking ass down there in Haiti, great reporting, he was the first reporter on the scene and probably will be the last to leave.
L.J.
The Coop has great guns!
AlwaysGay
@Josh: Throwing a concrete block into a crowd is savage.
@romeo: Haitians walking aimlessly or running with knives or semi-automatic weapons occured frequently before the earthquake. The stuff you see in the video is opportunism not desperation. Someone threw a concrete block off a building into a crowd because they could get away with it. If they were smart they would stay put so as to not waste energy and hamper rescue efforts. Instead they are out running around causing mayhem.
What?
And the usual soulless monsters of Queerty rear their ugly anonymous heads to make comments they’d never make in public. If they ever dared to venture outside that is.
Gotta love how blatantly racist comments are defended as not being racist when they’re purely race based.
I’m oddly amused by the ignorance floating around on this site.

I’ve been watching my DVR for a week, did anything happen lately?

Sorry pal, but you don’t get to get away with that. Please point out the exact comments that were racist. otherwise you can’t just claim a comment was racist because somebody happened to say something about a group of people that you didn’t like. Your assumption seems to be that anytime anybody says anything about people that are black, that the insult must be race based. What a sad little world you live in.
RPatz
maybe Anderson now has a Haitian bf, like he once had one in the Dominican Republic. He does like his meat well-done.
What?
@Cam: No it’s a sad little world you live in when you’re so blind and ignorant that you can’t see the obvious.
Nice try, idiot.

Man, some of you are disgusting. Catty, self-absored and hateful.

Anderson Cooper is so legendary. I appreciate what he has done in Haiti so far.
Jake
Well I think I’m going to have to start watching CNN more but not all day, because it does no good to sit in front of the TV and watch this looping coverage. I’m glad we have Anderson Cooper in Haiti. I wish I could be there helping people, but I think the best thing I can do is to help out from right here, and keep living life, as life goes on. Let’s keep the Haitian people in our thoughts, as they always are for me.
If any of you have ever had the blessing to meet Haitian people like I have, you would see that they are the warmest, most beautifully gracious people you would ever meet. Yes they are desperate for food and water, but wouldn’t you be if you were in their situation? Walk a mile in my moccasins.
Jake
oops their moccasins.. sorry đ
Jones
@no34: “I’m glad we have Anderson Cooper in Haiti.” Who’s we?
pantherq
Kudos to Anderson Cooper. Can we nominate him for the Medal of Freedom for showing values every American can agree with?
ewe
This is the boy i thought Anderson Cooper would have served well by adopting.
