In their divorce, Tennessee’s Angel Chandler and her now-ex-husband Joseph Baker agreed she would serve as the primary parent to their 15-year-old daughter while their 17-year-old son would live with Baker. Except Chandler, who now has a female partner, was told by a judge in 2008 that while her daughter was in her home, Chandler’s same-sex partner could not spend the night, pointing to “state law [that] prohibits parents from sleeping with boyfriends or girlfriends when their children are there.” An appeals court just ruled that rolling your eyes is an appropriate response to that decision; Chandler is now free to have her partner over for pajama parties.
I’m glad you said that “rolling your eyes” bit, because that’s exactly what I’d just done.
