Episcopal Church Bans 61 Gay-Hating Clergy

"National leaders of the Episcopal Church have ousted 61 clergy who aligned with a former bishop in California when he broke with the national church in a dispute over the Bible and homosexuality. Former Bishop John-David Schofield led his congregation in San Joaquin to become the first full diocese to secede from the U.S. denomination in 2007. Four years earlier, Episcopalians consecrated their first openly gay bishop, setting off a wide-ranging debate within the church and upsetting conservative congregations." [AP]

I think you got this wrong. They ousted 61 ANTI-gay clergy. Four years ago the episcopal church in Vermont chose out gay Robinson as a Bishop, and it's because of that that John-David Schofield and his colleagues broke away to form a splinter church. This simply states that those who chose to break away due to the church's pro-gay stance are now officially ousted.

You're wrong…they're ANTI-GAY priests! Can you kill this article? The Episcopal Church is a gay-friendly church and it's a good thing seeing these folks go.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!!! Your headline is dead opposite of the truth. Somebody must have been confused in reading the (highly abbreviated) text of the article. Please revise the headline!!!! Leaving it as is damages the credibility of this website. (Is anyone paying attention there at queerty?)

Does this site now think that support of ex-gay ministries and leading clergy and churches away from a gay affirming church make clergy "gay-loving"? Quite an evolution. Maybe you should at least check this post from 2007 to learn a little more about Schofield: http://www.queerty.com/anti-ga.....-20071221/

Here's a more recent description of why Schofield led his diocese out of the US-based Episcopalian Church:

"Bishop John-David Schofield of San Jaoquin, California recently led his Anglican flock out of the US-based Episcopal church. Why? Because the Americans are too soft on the gays, so Schofield and his pious posse have aligned themselves with South American-based Anglican Church of the Southern Cone. Such a move isn’t that surprising – the Anglicans have been debating the gays for years. Schofield’s past, however, may have played a role in his queer repulsion:

{Schofield} previously attributed his views on homosexuality to his experience of Fresno-based ex-gay group New Creation Ministries."

This does not sound like anything that could reasonably be called "gay-loving" (except maybe by people such as Tony Perkins or James Dobson). Try Google first (or check your archives) before writing a post as mistaken as this (or at least tell your readers that you evolving toward an anti-gay position if this is the sudden direction you are taking.

"Leaving it as is damages the credibility of this website."

You can't damage that which never existed in the first place. This is classic queerty people… Not that I'm complaining, obviously, just being honest about why I come here: lolz.

please please please remove this article or change the headline. people are going to just glance at the headline and not realize how incorrect it is. the Episcopalian church has done too much for gay people to be defamed in this way.

why does this blog continually post lies? There's enough truth out there where you don't have to make things up to get a conversation going.

The error is probably due in part to the fact that they are all hyped up on crystal meth over at the queerty offices and need the sensational and error filled headlines (don't get me started on the slew of gramatical and spelling errors)to obtain greater hits and exposure for their advertising clients.

This is an "info-tainment" site, not a reliable source for news or accurate fact.

That would actually make a great masthead for this site.

Queerty, I don't know wtf is going on with you guys but somethings wrong. This shit is happening more & more and is absolutely ridiculous. Its getting where every time I read something you write I have to shake my head cause I feel like I am suffering from dyslexia or something. The story about tops and bottoms in different cities. That chart looks ass backward to me. Get a grip or get off the meds or whatever is going on in that tiny little office of yours.

A diocese cannot secede from The Episcopal Church. Parishes within the diocese left and joined another Anglican province. Their prerogative, though the property belongs to TEC.

There still is a gay-loving Diocese of San Joaquin in TEC (diosanjoaquin.org).

Okay, perhaps I missed something. Has the article or headline changed? Because what I'm reading is accurate. The Gay-Hating episcopal clergy have been ousted from the episcopal church, and to the credit of the church.

Okay, I now see the cryptic ed note. . .was that what changed? cause wow, I would have been on that like a well . .you know.

This gay novel has pretty extreme views about religion and being gay all done in a sci-fi style sory, the writer was even almost killed when this book was first published. After being banned in his own country it is now available.
check the plot – As predicted by Isaac Newton the second coming happened and as the world waited to see what was about to happen an appointed man was sent to meet God, hours later God had vanished and the man came out immortal; no apocalypse, no destruction and no salvation. This gave birth to a chain of holy wars that almost chattered Earth's civilizations and so giving birth to a mass colonization of planets to ensure peace by separation. Thousands of years later all was at peace by until Endings were born; humans connected to their planets in such a way that they are capable of destroying them should they wish it. Now Earth's Ending has been born and the day to pass judgment draws near.

I had to keep going back and reading the headline and the article, in light of the comments. The Episcopal church did the right thing; they kicked out the GAY-HATING clergypersons. And the editor points that out because it is just the opposite of what one would expect from a religous organization. Message=Episcopalians good. What is Queerty supposed to fix?
