The Vatican / Benedict really burn my ass. Use whatever "selection process" you want the real issue is the closet. The closet is so psychologically destructive it often produces pathological behavior. There's a reason gay men in homophobic institutions behave in self-destructive ways (ask congressman Foley). If you're a good priest and keep your vows it's irrelevant whetheher you're gay or straight. The gender of the people you'r NOT having sex with is a non-issue.
Umm.. Can the Roman Catholic Church afford to be picky, because they are practically begging for vocations and also losing clergypeople left and right, because they don't allow "deep seated homosexuality". Oh come on, even second graders know joining the Clergy is the opt out to getting married. I mean I use to want to become a nun under the Sisters of Mercy, it was some crazy shit really. I was a second grader who was told people who don't get married join the clergy. So I told my teacher I wanted to be a nun. Kept up with that till ratzinger said you couldn't be gay and in the clergy, bit of a dissapointment to my parish. But yeah I know a ton of people who just got vocations who are LGBT and no one has called them out yet.
If all the closeted priests decided to come out at the same time and said "we are all gay, would you like us to leave or stay?" the church would change their tune fast, or they would have very few priests, indeed.
There is a huge price to pay for living a life of lies.
They should test them to see if they have pedophile tendencies.
If they adopt this then there will be no priesthood. A friend of mine
went to his priest in high school to discuss his sexual orientation and the priest told him not to worry, it just meant he was to join the priesthood. I am serious!
