MUSIC: R.E.M. Teams Up With Patti Smith, James Franco, Terry Richardson, Lindsey Lohan For “Blue”

The newly released “Blue” may just be the best R.E.M. song we’ve heard in, like, 15 years. It’s a dreamy, chaotic song featuring spoken-word bits by front man Michael Stipe and backing vocals by none other than Patti freakin’ Smith.

The equally dreamy video was directed by James Franco and features Lindsey Lohan (!) posing for Terry Richardson, among other grainy L.A. scenes.

R.E.M. didn’t stay broken up for very long, did they? (I’m not complaining!) “This song is for… you.”

This is actually not a new song. It’s from their last (in both meanings of the word) album “Collapse Into Now”, that came out last year. R.E.M. are still broken up, sadly.
