Following the huge success of this summer’s Gaymer Connect conference in San Francisco, organizers have embraced the same savvy strategy as game developers: start work on a sequel.
GaymerX2 will return to SF in July of 2014, bigger and better and nerdier than ever. They’re moving out of Japantown and into a bigger hotel in SoMa (epicenter of the city’s dwindling leather bars, FYI).
A nicer venue, better food, and more speakers await attendees. And that’s not all: they’ll also host a wedding. You might’ve seen the adorable bears who got engaged during a panel talk at the first con. Well, they’ll be getting hitched at GaymerX2. (In addition, one assumes, to a more private ceremony with family.)
As for us, we’re mostly looking forward to expended cosplaying opportunities. How many sexy Nesses will we see this time around?
You can pick up badges and book your hotel rooms today — or start planning your couch-surfing now. See you there!
Click through below for some of our favorite cosplayer pics from the first con.
Here’s Dante. Perhaps you’ve heard of his inferno? Anyway, he and his lovely friend are melting our hearts.
This cosplay is super-effective (at tenting our pants). Get ready to perform Volt Tackle!
The team from So Much Drama Studios shows off their new RuPaul game, Dragopolis.
Jade and Riddick battle over whose universe is more dystopian.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Sexy Amateratsu and Chibiterasu perform for the judges at the Cosplay masquerade. Apparently baring your skin works, because he later won “Best Queer Cosplay.” (Note the rainbow streamers.)
The new Doctor brought his dancing shoes. The Saturday night dance featured hours and hours of giddy chiptunes.
There were a bunch of sexy Links at the conference. How many, exactly? Well, that’s a secret to everybody.
We choose all of you! This lucky trainer nabbed a lovely Chansey, Bulbasaur and Pansage.
Ness seems to be enjoying a bit of a renaissance lately, with the re-release of Earthbound. There were at least three sexy Nesses roaming the hotel.
Just bros being bros.
Wife-and-Husband VO artists Ellen McLain (Portal, Pacific Rim) and John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2) greet the nerds. Ellen’s currently shooting an indie film about a dad and his gay son called Winning Dad, and John has a new book out called Dancing with Eternity.
GaymerX organizers Matt Conn and Kayce Brown welcome the crowd.
Pandora Boxx menaces the crowd with a performance of White Rabbit.
Queer nerds traveled across the country to come together for one big group hug.
Here’s Kayce and Matt, surrounded by the party that they made possible. Now, how to top it next year?

I’m a gamer, but I don’t understand these conventions. The dressing up in costumes I WOULD NEVER. Don’t feel like I would fit in at all. I play COD, Mass Effect, Battlefield, Splinter Cell, GTA, etc…but I don’t want to dress up like any of the characters and go to an event. I dunno. I’m looking at the costumes and don’t know who they are supposed to be, but Halloween is around the corner.

They need to get a booth at E3 that’d be soooooo cool.

The con was a lot of fun – looking forward to its return. Hopefully the tabletop area will be a mite bigger next year.

A lot of folks enjoy cosplay but some don’t pull off the looks well but give them props for their efforts and hope they enjoyed their experience. I did however really enjoy the look of Alice’ on page 13, I feel they did a great job with her look/outfit, well done!
boring
Make sure to only get pictures of the most attractive people at the “nerd” convention.
Ugly and Enraged REPRESENT.

::shrug:: Different folk enjoy different things. Doesn’t cosplay doesn’t bother me one way or the other.

@Cee:
conventions are about geeking out and having fun. For some that means dressing up. It goes back to that feeling when you’re a kid and Halloween comes up and you just LOVE Batman or Superman or Jack Skellington so you want to be them for one night. There’s nothing wrong about dressing up, and there’s no pressure to dress up, so what’s your beef?

I like comic con in San Diego, since i live an hour away i try and go every year, but i don’t really have an interest in Gaymer. Going by my experience, i just never find it very fun to hang out with a lot of gay people. Maybe gay geeks are different different than the bitchy queens from so cal.

Having attended last year, it’s a super-friendly crowd – cattiness level is low to nonexistent. If you’re into nerdy stuff, I’d recommend it. 🙂
