A federal judge who sent the Notorious K.I.M., aka Kim Davis, to jail today noted that the Rowan County Clerk had sworn an oath to perform her job, just as many other public servants do. “Oaths mean things,” U.S. District Judge David Bunning told Davis on Thursday.
Here is the oath of office taken by court clerks and deputies in Kentucky:
Oath of clerk and deputies:
Every clerk and deputy, in addition to the oath prescribed by Section 228 of the Constitution, shall, before entering on the duties of his office, take the following oath in presence of the Circuit Court:
How about we take this to the next level?

“I, _____, do swear that I will well and truly discharge the duties of the office of _____ County Circuit Court clerk, according to the best of my skill and judgment, making the due entries and records of all orders, judgments, decrees, opinions and proceedings of the court, and carefully filing and preserving in my office all books and papers which come to my possession by virtue of my office; and that I will not knowingly or willingly commit any malfeasance of office, and will faithfully execute the duties of my office without favor, affection or partiality, so help me God.”

I think people should be allowed to think and act according to their beliefs. If her skewed view on fundamental Christianity will not permit her to support marriage equality (Or Equal Rights for that matter), and she will not issue marriage licences to same sex couples, then FIRE HER. She works in a government building and is required BY LAW to issue the marriage license. If this goes any further and she wins her case in court, which is highly unlikely, it will set a precedence for others to follow suit and start denying services based on their beliefs as well. I bare no ill will towards her. She just needs to find a job better suited to her bigotry.

That’s not how electoral government jobs work.
Desert Boy
Sadly, even after the Kentucky governor ORDERED her to issue marriage licenses, the only way they can rid themselves of this anti-gay Bible thumper is fro the legislature to vote to impeach her. It’ll be interesting to see if jail knocks some sense into her head. My guess is, Kim “Misery” Davis will leave jail more arrogant than ever.

She is living in Hell everyday, that why she spreads Hate.

She didn’t follow the law and now she is being punished. Hopefully marriage incenses can no go forward now that this selfish, stupid whore is in jail. She is stupid. It’s just not fair to deny other’s rights because of beliefs. That is just going to far. The law is the law now. She needs another line of work.

“So help me God” is actually written in the oath? I would have to object to that on my own (anti)religious grounds. Glad they were smart enough to leave that part out of the US Constitution – no hands on bibles or swearing to gods in there. (Thank you, slave-owning white men of yesteryear.)

@Desert Boy: Federal Judges are very serious when it comes to those who are jailed for contempt – almost notoriously so. If she insists on being the arrogant prig (and other NSFW adjectives) that she has proven herself to be, she is going to be there for a LONG time.
jud
This whole thing is so ridiculous for this woman.
She was not elected to decide in her own opinion who should be married.
She was elected to evaluate the status of all persons applying for licenses for many actions to make sure they meet the standards that the government set.
Her personal opinions have nothing to do with this.
What would she do if Muslims applied? if Hindus applied? if Jews applied?
Her “Christian” beliefs would reject them as well.
She has absolutely no standing legally.
I’m appalled that the judge let her go if her underlings signed off.
She’s a total fraud–and an insult to democracy.
Then, her personal life? with Biblicly prohibition against divorce? And her life? Please deliver me from such hypocracy.
But-she says–that’s behind me-this it the new me.
PLEASE!!!!

The oath ends with “will faithfully execute the duties of my office without favor, affection or partiality, so help me God.” “So help me God” means she swore an oath TO GOD to perform her duties “without favor, affection or partiality” which means whether she agrees with them or not. She’s violating the oath she swore to God. Imagine that.

Bad employee of the year, no pay for her.
Hobbs Terry
She said she don’t need no stinkin’ oath!

@Jason Berry: “then FIRE HER”
Does no one read anymore? You can’t fire an elected official.

just what she wanted, more money making publicity

It’s called “selective biblical hermeneutics” (although she would have no idea what hermeneutics means)

Does anyone know if a judge declaring someone in contempt of court technically makes that person a criminal? Or is that designation reserved for those convicted at a trial?
Teresa Hart
which makes her even MORE wrong for not issuing licenses.. :p

KIM DAVIS…enjoy your time in PRISON….

She is a clown.

@ingyaom: You’re allowed to exclude that part from the oath. They also give you an option to swear on a copy of the Constitution instead of a Bible.

Challenging the authority of a federal judge is a very serious offense and they take their job very seriously. Ignoring a court order is AGAINST the law. Being in contempt of court can be a CRIME.

She could be headed to trial.

Her god is helping the bitch break her oath. Impeach this stupid woman. Let’s reduce all the Kentucky jokes by one.

would be nice to see the community stop calling this hag names, we all know what she is , and realize she is below us and society at large does not stand with her. best to ignor this human waste as we move forwards in our own lives.
Bob LaBlah
@GG: If she got arrested that means she committed a crime which means she is a criminal. If she goes to trial and is convicted, then she becomes a convict.
She is going to sit in front of a jury of twelve men and women and explain (and expect them to believe) she was so in love with the job that she couldn’t quit because she was being asked to do what she knew was her assigned duty; respect the detailed description of the job she was hired to do.
Its too bad ol’ Sister Glory Hallelujah here didn’t read up on ol’ Linda Tripp, who got a settlement of $500k but saw not ONE dime of it because it ALL went to her attorneys in fees. The same will happen to this sanctimonious, transplanted hillbilly. All the money being raised for her defense will go for just that, defense. She is of no use to Pat Robertson and company nor even the far right because of her past. Her actions, yes. But her, HELL TO THE NO as for something they could use.

It’s probably time to put this sad tale aside. Things went as expected and she knew full well (from her legal counsel, of course) how they would sort out. It really isn’t about her quesitonable past or even her “conversion” and sin being washed away immediately, it’s about breaking the law. So, she (they) claim that the law is not applicable to her and her kind. But it isTHE LAW.Anyone raised in a proper home knows that beaking laws is not acceptiable. She has couched hers in “religion” and thinks she has the “right” to abstain from doing her job, for which she is paid handsomely. The promise of funds flowing in is clouding what is left of her judgement. And they will, folks, flow in…make no mistake about that. The real tragedy (hers) here is that she won’t see much, if any, of it. Legal fees are massive in any case that resembles this one. That’s how Liberty Council exists..they have paid lawyers on tap to take on theses cases, all designed to line THEIR pockets, NOT the defendants. So she loses, big time. She is just too dense to see it. Sad. Really sad. May she soon become a footnote in the “bible wars” and a distant memory. She is a dwarf casting a giant shadow now, but not for much longer.

She is merely attracting publicity for an eventual run at higher office, since almost any elected office is higher than county clerk.
Also, Kentucky is electing a new governor in Nov. 2015, being one of the few states to have those elections in odd-numbered years. Despite its redneck reputation, Kentucky has long had a Democrat as governor (who’s not running again because of term limits). So the Kim Davis circus is affecting the campaign for governor quite a bit. The Republican nominee, a Tea Party wacko, is taking the rabidly anti-gay position.
NJjoe
She signed a sworn statement, she should be fired immediately. I don’t care if she is creating a circus, she did it and only her. She should be FIRED!
Giancarlo85
@onthemark: Matt Bevin right? Total nutcase right winger. Kentucky does have enough urban areas to offset that idiot hopefully. But then again that idiot Bevin lost against Mitch McConnell lol. Then again, Jack Conway is pretty conservative for a democrat. He’d be better than Bevin for sure.
