We imagine it’s been quite the couple of weeks for former boxing title contender Yusaf “Mack Attack” Mack. Aside from the whole gay porn past coming around to throw a wrench in his life, he’s had to learn the hard way that you can’t just make up an utterly preposterous story to a reporter and expect everything to smooth itself out.

In case you missed it last week, Mack had the creme de la crem of implausible explanations for how he had somehow come to appear in a film produced by DawgPoundUSA.com. He said he’d been drugged and tricked into the whole debacle — points for originality, but alas, none for believability.

DawgPound quickly went on the defensive (as we’d expect anyone being falsely accused of kidnapping and rape to do), releasing a statement that Mack’s accusations were as they appeared to be — a bunch of frantic backpedaling.
Well, it didn’t take long for Mack to come clean. He put out his own statement in which he comes out as bisexual.
It reads:
This is an issued public apology from my heart. I want to address a few situations with the first being the false claims I made about being drugged during the Dog Pound adult film. I have never spoke negatively about the company that produced the film although the claim to have been given a drug by someone during set was a lie. I was completely aware and fully conscious during the film.
The second situation, which further explain the first, concerns my lifestyle. I did participate in the adult film because at the time I needed money but also because I am a bisexual man. Meaning I enjoy safely being intimate with whomever I choose.

There are other men and women that are set up in the similar situations and I just hope I can be inspiration to be just be you. The extreme taboo and harsh criticism of living a same sex lifestyle, especially as an African American male, makes it hard to be completely honest and comfortable within yourself. But I had to remember that I am a champ & I can fight and will fight through this. I am more than my sexual orientation.

I have no problem saying I’m gay. I have no interest in being intimate with women, so “gay” or “homosexual” is the right word for me and I don’t have a problem with it the way “Brian” seems to. “Just do what you do”? If what you do is have sexual feelings (and activity) with other males, then you’re gay. If it’s men and women, then you’re bi. What’s wrong with that?

I see two possibilities:
1: He is truly bi or gay. In that case, he was outed before he was ready, and he should be forgiven for his insecurity and the fact that he wasn’t outed when he was ready. The porn company should not sue him and the issue should be dropped.
2: He was telling a somewhat truthful story initially. He’s basically straight, but did the porn for the money. There are many straight guys in porn. If his ability to have sex with men was drug induced, he probably knew exactly what he was getting into. The public will still believe him (as we should) and the same outcome should occur. He can still date only girls and use the ‘bi’ label to cover the truth.
No matter what. As this unfolded, his agenda and lawyers probably told him the honest truth. No one will believe him if he doesn’t come out. In the eyes of the public, if a man has sex with a man in any way, he is basically gay. He could be bi, but is probably just kidding himself. The allegations of being drugged, just adds to the perception of being in denial.
When he spoke with lawyers and his agent, they probably told him how crazy he is to deny being attracted to men. A jury would never believe him or his twisted tale. By coming out, he will attain positive attention and be labeled courageous. By denying it, he will still be considered gay and deal with even more bullying, not to mention likely end his career for what is percieved as a lie.

@Brian: That’s such an arbitrary stance… declaring your sexual orientation or not declaring does what exactly? Whether or not you acknowledge the sun’s existence doesn’t change the fact that it’s there, nor does it mean that once you say “Hey, that is the sun”, you must suddenly mold your ideology to that one acknowledgement. Identity politics is harmful. It might have been useful about 50 years ago but today it has turned into a burden. It burdens men in particular.
Of course, gay-identifying men won’t give up on identity politics. They love the fact that they can create gay spaces for promiscuous sex. It’s all about promiscuous sex, isn’t it? It’s about creating a magnet (ie the gay scene) for men to be attracted to so they can get their rocks off in a quick, cheap way.
I’m of the view that male homosexual desire is a great thing but gay male politics isn’t. The latter weakens men in an overall sense and diminishes them compared to women. In fact, women gain an ascendancy over all men as a result of gay male identity politics.

As for the boxer, I don’t want to say “Good for him” because he made his own decision and then basically accused a legal business of rape, kidnap and whatever other charges a DA could put in.
