‘They are men. They have desires. They have testosterone’

jonasghk

“They are men. They have desires. They have testosterone. If they make a mistake, I’m not going to hate them. I don’t think they are above or below being seduced. I would be foolish if I thought that. They are tested and tested, like every one of us. I pray for them.” —The Jonas Brothers’ mom Denise on the celibacy of her three boys [Good Housekeeping]

So, are we in agreement that Kevin, not Joe, is the gay one?

Celibacy???

Celibacy? – is this for real??

So how will she react to one of them being gay? More praying I suppose.

So…she did explain to them that in the course of being tempted, if–after all their prayers and magic rings–they give in, she did explain to them about condoms and STDs (or STIs as they are now apparently called) and consent and all that.

Right?

How foolish! I can just imagine that they sit around dinner discusing how many times they jerk off and have wet dreams durring their days with mom.

Imagine what a laugh that has to be: the boys probably do each other by now as often as possible.

What is this parenting rule: only she can have them ; then pray like hell that dad doesn’t find out.

I find it amusing that if her sons DO make a mistake, it’s because someone ELSE seduced them… because her sons would NEVER go and seek out any… opportunities for themselves… Right?

Mind how she states she understands how they might be weak if some slutty trollop seduces them..but since they’re only boys and “boys will be boys”. Poor, poor boys! Always the victims of slutty girls and lust.

but they were girls she’d be checking their hymens daily for purity and would shit a brick if they lost it before their Disney sanctified marriage.

@Eric: Remember, Satan is tempting them all the time. Satan tempts us with sin to win over our souls from God. He’s a real, malevolent force in our lives. So whether or not they have some personal responsibility for their “sins,” they were tempted and seduced by Satan.

No, they really believe that.

My reaction is basically the opposite of what others write: this woman sounds sane and healthy. I’m not a Jo Bro fan: one seems smart, one is cute, one seems sweet, but the cute one seems obnoxious and the others lack charisma from my perspective. They’re fine, but I’m not biased in their favor. The purity rings turn my stomach, frankly,

The statement quote here, though, is what I want the mothers of teenage boys to feels, frankly. I want the moms on their sons’ sides, which she clearly is, and note that she is saying her boys are not better or worse than anyone else. I read her as saying that the purity rings are a nice idea, but she’s not going to be upset if they slip. Her audience here is teenagers and their parents. She is modeling a healthy attitude for both groups, not being puritanical or prurient.
