Taking a cue from Lana Del Rey and her “Video Games,” gay artist/activist Leo Herrera has comprised 50 years of imagery and footage from LGBT cultural milestones in his mesmerizing five-minute video, “The Fortune Teller.”
Taking six months to assemble, the story is told through the trance of a, you guessed it, fortune teller (with audio lifted, appropriately, from The Wizard of Oz) and features video that ranges from “Mapplethorpe to Lohanthony, Uganda to Burning Man, Vogue to Sissy Bounce, [and] AIDS to The Berlin Patient,” Herrera explains of the 100 clips he used for the project.
Herrera also managed to include Harvey Milk, Anita Bryant, RuPaul, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Scissor Sisters, and even Cazwell’s delicious “Ice Cream Truck” video.
“This film was created with the hopes that every gay man can find something to identify with,” Herrera said in a statement.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
What other events or memorable moments in the past 50 would’ve you included in this montage?
