Who The Heck Cares What Miss Beverly Hills Thinks About Gay Marriage?

Do you even know who Miss Beverly Hills is? Do you even know what a Miss Beverly Hills is? Didn’t think so. So when you hear Miss Beverly Hills 2010 Lauren Ashley in on a Bible-based bashing of gay marriage, is this something to pay attention to? Or is this just the ramblings of one semi-privileged young girl with modest platform?

“The Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman,” says Ashley. “In Leviticus it says, ‘If man lies with mankind as he would lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.’ The Bible is pretty black and white.”

We hear — and report on — this crap from thousands of people every year. What makes Ashley notable then? Fox News and some blogs are in a tizzy about her comments. Sure, she’ll be competing to become Miss California in November, and her comments may have already handicapped those chances. And sure, this makes for an interesting post-Carrie Prejean atmosphere.

But Ashley is just one gal who happens to be representing one of the wealthiest zip codes in America in a manufactured beauty pageant. Let’s not give this girl — whose name makes us think home furnishings — a national platform prematurely, mmmkay?
