Well, that all depends. If you’re Down Under, we’re sure you’ll be hitting up the closing to Sydney Mardi Gras (above), possibly the biggest gay event in the world. Instead perhaps you’ll find yourself whizzing (and potentially falling) down the slopes at Asian Gay Ski Week in India or Elevation Utah in Park City.
If that all sounds like a bit too much, there’s always one of these great Oscar viewing parties to attend.

Ok, ya’ll need to come to London…just saying! :p

The Sydney Mardi Gras parade isn’t until March. Yeah, more than a week after the literal f Mardi Gras (which is called Shrove Tuesday in Australia). The connection between the two is extremely tenuous.

*literal Mardi Gras

Sydney Mardi Gras actually started a week a go with Mardi Gras Fair Day, which is followed up by 3 weeks of conferences, parties and festivals. Yesterday was the famous Harbour Party, 3000 Gays partying all afternoon and evening within site of the opera house, today was Salvation, tmrw pool party, there are parties all week culminating with the parade after party, with KYLIE and Ru-paul. Its 10,000 queers at one party after huge gay nighttime parade. The next day also has tons of after parties and recovery parties.

The Sydney Gay Mardi Gras is a sad event consisting of exposed flesh and fetishes. The participants mostly don’t give a rat’s about gay rights.
It went from a gay rights march back in the 70’s to an indulgent collection of narcissists and gym members with a predilection for G-strings. How a once mighty movement has fallen…..
Stuart
@jason: How arrogant are the jaded and privileged gays of the world who can make fun and deride those that enjoy such events. The gay and lesbian rights lobby receives the profits form harbour party, gays around the world come to experience it, for a lot of us its the first time we have seen more than a 100 of us in 1 place. yet were narcissists and indulgent. The conferences held featured such amazing writers as sen raj, the film festival had the the premiere of “the cure” a documentary exposing the truth about reparative therapy in austrlia, all gay political groups, GLRL, CAAH, rainbow labour are all using this moment to push for the legalization of gay marriage. ACON and the bobby goldsmith foundation get huge messages of importance out about safer sex and HIV. This festival requires over a thousand volunteers, you think they do it for indulgences, considering they need to be sober for it. I think your the one who has become sad and pathetic.

Stuart,
When Australia gets gay civil marriage, perhaps then you could make a case for indulgence. At the moment, Australians have neither gay civil marriage nor gay civil unions. Some states have third class arrangements called civil partnerships but that’s all.
I’ve been to Sydney’s Gay Mardi Gras and I know from first-hand experience that the parade is based on exposed flesh and fetishes. It’s a sad event.
Stuart
@jason: You do realize your arguing my point, that the parade is still political. They are fighting and pushing for gay marriage and using the parade to do so.
This is going to be my 4th Mardi Gras. Each time I go i discover something new and amazing about it. I think your the one who is only seeing exposed flesh and fetishes. i’ve met amazing people, seen amazing things and participated in something that has changed mine and others lives. You obviously only had one thing only our mind or weren’t looking when you came if thats all you experienced.
