“The days of gratuitous boobie calenders are behind us. The time has come for chest hair and unbridled masculinity,” read the event page for the debut of photographer Michelle Ma’s Babes of Bushwick calendar.
And in Bushwick, the hipsterific and gentrifying Brooklyn neighborhood, what constitutes a calendar pinup is a little different than in most parts of the world. Bulging muscles? Not so much. A guy with a soft spot for kittens? Definitely.
Here are a few images from the calendar, which features all local baristas, artists, bartenders, etc.

I think that you can be a hunk without bulging muscles, these guys are both very hot.

Michelle Ma’s inner maniaclogue: Because I thought of it clearly it has never happened before in the history of the world! All time is my time! Obviously I am a visionary and genius!

I’d prefer someone like these guys instead of someone on steroids

Two is not a ‘few’. Words actually mean things. A few is 3 or more. That’s why we have the word ‘couple’ and ‘a’.
May I ask you a question? 1 question
May I ask you a couple questions? 2 questions
May I ask you a few questions? More than 2 questions.
The dictionary is WRONG!

@Large Marge, tangential comment regarding the word “couple.” In America “a couple of” strictly means “two.” This is something I had to get used to when I immigrated, since in much of the rest of the English speaking world “a couple” means “a few,” i.e., a couple can be more than two.

@Large Marge: If your English professor at Harvard asks you to stop by his office after class because he has a “couple” of questions he’d like you to answer, there very little chance he means just “two.” To quote Winston Churchill, “From now on, ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put.”

@crowebobby: “there is” my keyboard is sticking.

“In Michelle Ma’s version of a pinup calendar, the men are more, um, emotionally ripped than physically.”
An apt description of what the photographer captures. Very moving.
