The new iPhone 7 has many groundbreaking features. Two new camera systems. Stereo speakers. The most powerful chip ever in a smartphone. And, judging by this new commercial, a gay couple snuggling up a New York subway.

At least, we’re presuming they’re gay. In 2016, they could be two straight or two utterly gender-fluid non-binary people who have absolutely no problem showing a little public affection. (We’re all just bodies, right?)

Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Unfortunately, the scene where they realize there’s no headphone jack and start screaming at one other and tearfully end the relationship wound up on the cutting room floor.

Nothing personal Mr De Koff…just I like to know if I’m wasting my time reading advertorial or not.

Nobody cares.

I am an Apple fan boy (really, more like an Apple old man), but even I snickered when the two new colors were “black” and “jet black.” Pulezz.
Two guys with one resting his head on the other’s shoulder on a SF Metro car, I guess they are gay. I bet a In-N-Out number 1 meal on it, but not necessarily so. Besides, kinda nice just having gay people as part of the mix without a neon sign indicating “We Included Gay People, See!!!!!”

@MediaGuy: Nobody cares? I can’t believe that you are over 25 with a statement like that. Being much older, and seeing ZERO positive Gay images for 1/2 my life and the few I did see in movies/TV were either beaten, killes or committed suicide, YES it is wonderful to be portrayed as a normal part of the mosaic of life.

I am certainly glad they are bringing to our attention when gay couples are featured in advertising. The unfortunate part is, the headline is not “There is a Gay Couple in the New iPhone ad!” It’s “blink and you’ll miss it.” Always the negative spin. Blink and you’ll miss anything. It is a commercial. Edits are quick. Of course, the content is never as negative as the commenters.

They appear twice at 0:17 seconds faceless and then around 1:56 both canoodling

@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: The headline clearly states this piece is about an iphone commercial, you’d have to be pretty dumb to read it thinking you would not be exposed to advertorial content. But clearly you like to blame others for your own choices.

I am starting to notice more and more ads including gay couples in their montage without fanfare or publicity seeking which I think is awesome. We should all care because it means we are being included for who we are and not because it is politically correct or because any company is trying to gain praise for it.

Just for reference that is a New York City Transit Subway car! That particular type of subway car has been running with the NYC subway system since the mid-1970’s! To the keen observers it is the same type of subway car that was used in the porn video Wall Street, made in 2009 where Rafael Alencar and Ben Andrews get it on in a moving subway car! It is the same type of subway car, model R-46. (http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?126707)

Maybe you some non-white gay couples or some that aren’t able-bodied? They do exist and many of them do own apple products.
