Bryan Singer fired from Queen biopic after on-set chaos

Out director Bryan Singer has been fired from the Queen film Bohemian Rhapsody.

Twentieth Century Fox, the studio behind the big-budget flick, made the announcement.

“Bryan Singer is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody,” the studio said in a statement.

Just last week, the studio announced that production had been suspended due to Singer’s “unexpected unavailability.”

Many thought this reasoning seemed fishy, as reports said that Singer and actor Rami Malek, who plays Freddie Mercury, feuded on set.

The trouble began when Singer was absent from production on several occasions. Cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel had to step in when Singer was a no-show.

Malek, who’s made a name for himself as the star of the hit USA series Mr. Robot, complained to Twentieth Century Fox about Singer’s behavior.

The tension built up to an on-set confrontation between the actor and director, which reportedly involved Singer throwing an object. The two then attempted to come to an agreement and continue on with the job.

But then Thanksgiving rolled around, and after the break, Singer did not return to the set with the rest of the cast and crew.

This was the last straw for the studio heads, who opted to terminate him under his pay-or-play contract.

Another insider tells the Hollywood Reporter that Singer claims to be suffering PTSD after the tense on-set atmosphere. Yeah… the same tension he himself created by being a complete flake while people’s livelihoods and careers were on the line. Classic.

The studio is expected to name a replacement to carry out the short remaining filming schedule.

When is MSNBC going to fire Joy Reid for her homophobic tweets attacking a man she accused of being gay? There is nothing “progressive” about being a homophobic racist.

    • Blackceo

They aren’t. And she apologized. I didn’t even take them as homophobic. I mean who in the gay community hasn’t said “Miss so and so” . It was insensitive because she was doing it in a mocking way, and she was rightfully called out on that. But, homophobic? No. Not everything is homophobic just as not everything is racist and when we use those two very powerful words on every little thing it dilutes instances when real homophobia and racism are present. Joy got called to the carpet. She owned it, unlike some others who can’t, and even Charlie Crist exchanged pleasantries with her on Twitter.

      @Blackceo

But I thought we are supposed to respect the pronouns?

Also, on a related note, Bryan Singer should be in jail and his wife should be ashamed

Here’s a better question: When are idiot Republicans going to learn to prioritize questions? I’m thinking “Is

    • GoodGrief

Kieran, I fully agree. We’re not talking about a one-off slip, but several gay-bashing posts. Referring to gay men in the feminine as insult or attack is gay-bashing. I said the same thing when Kathy Griffin gay-bashed Anderson Cooper. I’ve noticed an alarming trend in which the homophobia of supposedly “liberal” women is quickly forgiven or entirely overlooked.

If a host had multiple posts that included racism or misogyny, Reid would have led the charge to have the host fired. And she would have been correct to do so.

    • DCguy

Awww, how adorable, the anti-lgbt troll whose only job is to attack anything lgbt and defend Republican bigots tries to pretend they care about bigotry and falsely attacks Joy Reid, who was mocking a closeted Charlie Christ, who at that time was attacking lgbts.

      Yeah, nice try Troll.

    • Kieran

@GoodGrief Absolutely. Apparently if you’re a liberal in good standing you can be as obnoxiously homophobic as you want and queerty will happily ignore it. It makes a laughable farce of their erstwhile slogan, “Free of an agenda, except that gay one.”

    • DCguy

@Kieran Please stop trying the whole “Gee, liberals don’t tolerate bigots, so that means they are intolerant”.

The Mormons tried that during the Prop 8 fight, they did it better than you, and the STILL lost the argument because it was idiotic.

We get it, you’re an anti-lgbt bigot, and you’re here to support any anti-lgbt position you can find. But please don’t try to pretend that we don’t know this, or try to use these worn out defenses.

I suppose you’d refer to the comic Lisa Lampanelli as racist and homophobic if you watched one of her shows. However, there is a big difference. Watch as black, Asian, and Gay people laugh at bigoted derogatory crap thrown at them. Why? Because we know where she stands. Plus, she’s actually funny unlike conservatives that think hurting others is funny and would never recognized the difference.

Using Joy Reid is a false equivalence. Like Lisa we know where she stands.

Charlie Crist supported bans on same sex adoption and same sex marriage while as closeted gay man and serving as AG and as Governor of Florida.

  • Rabbit

And by the way, he was commonly referred to as ‘Miss Charlie’ by us at the bars.

    • Kangol

Thank you, but of course the right-wing snowflakes who abandoned Charlie Crist are now “virtue signaling” to try to get Joy Reid fired, even though she apologized, she and Crist have no problem with each other, and, as I’ll say again, those same right-wing snowflakes couldn’t stand Charlie Crist and abandoned him!

    • mhoffman953

      @Rabbit & @Kangol

So if someone who was right leaning said the same things about someone they didn’t like (making fun of gay men by stereotyping them as effeminate, calling them by the opposite gender based on their mannerisms, associating gay behavior to someone you don’t like as an insult, etc), you wouldn’t have an issue with it?

I quickly looked for a similar instance and found Queerty felt calling Rachel Maddow was offensive around the same time these Joy Reid blog posts were written: https://www.queerty.com/tucker-carlson-is-behind-rachel-maddow-is-a-man-comments-its-not-just-low-brow-its-unfunny-20100205

Same goes for when an anchor called Rachel Maddow an “angry young man”: https://www.queerty.com/anchor-apologizes-for-calling-rachel-maddow-an-angry-young-man-20121112

It’s not so much that people on the right are “snowflakes”, it’s more that they point out the double standards of those on the left in these situations

Considering the amount of money girl was being paid I think her ass should have been fired after the FIRST no show. You are the DIRECTOR of a multi-million dollar movie but left NO information as to how to locate you to no one? People, doesn’t SOMETHING sound not quite right with that picture? This is the reason why I wish queens would accept that not everyone needs to know where and with whom you sleep. This gives a black eye to the next gay director chosen for an epic movie.

    • Donston

Singer identities as bi and is married to a woman. And he has already directed plenty of huge blockbusters and Hollywood movies. He has built industry clout, which is why he wasn’t immediately fired and why he’s been able to not get exposed with the rest of these other pervs.

I don’t see how supporting being closet case has anything to do with this scenario.

    • dash_board1

@Donston, I know he identifies as bisexual but I hadn’t heard that he’s married to a woman. I know he just had a kid with a female friend of his, is this the same woman you are referring to or did he marry some other woman?

    • Donston

As far as I know they didn’t get married but still consider each other “partners”, despite the fact that they’re never seen together.

I just don’t understand why someone who knows their attractions and sexual behaviors are mostly towards minors actually purposely has a kid and why a sensible woman would agree to basically gift a known abuser and pedo/hebephilic person a child. Well, money probably, as usual.

    • ChrisK

Hopefully they won’t be into drugging and raping young teens.

    • ChrisK

@Donston. It’s a common trait with nearly all pedophiles that they don’t identify with being gay. I would expect nothing less from Singer.

    • Donston

I really wasn’t trying to make a point about his identity, just correcting the initial poster and later fleshing out my response. However, there are gay-identifying men who have pedo and hebephilia based orientations. They’re not a ton of them because why come out as gay if you’re only into dudes no older than their mid-teens when you know you can’t build any type of real life with them and society will never accept your behavior? However, not every dude who messes around with very young people has a majority pedo or hebephilia based orientation. For many sex with minors, much like sexual assault and sexual coercion, is less about attraction, desire and passion and more about getting off on things like feeling power over another, keeping secrets, feeling subversive and feeling like you’re expertly manipulating people.

    • Donston

However, I don’t want to completely dismiss your point ChrisK, because you definitely have a point. Recent studies suggests that around 6% of men have orientations that are gay or very gay-leaning. And yet, almost 40% of men who get arrested for having sex with minors or attempting to have sex with minors are doing so with males. That’s too big of a gap. It means that in all likelihood a decent percentage of men who sexually abuse boys or who simply have sex with males that are 16 or younger are indeed not gay or even “mostly gay”. I would take a wild guess and say at least half are truly not.

  • DCguy

I LOVE the way Singer tries to lie and say he has PTSD from this, and it was a one time thing. According to people in Hollywood he has ALSO disappeared from multiple other movies he’s worked on. Sounds like he might be taking little Meth fuelled vacations or maybe he’s flying under aged boys out to Hawaii again.

    https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/fox-halts-production-queen-biopic-due-bryan-singer-absence-1063710

“This is not first time that Singer has disappeared during a production. He momentarily vanished during the shooting of 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse and 2006’s Superman Returns.”

Also remember, Noah Galvin in an interview pointed out that Singer Diddles little Boys” and media turned on Galvin and his show ended up getting cancelled.

    • ChrisK

Btw. I’ve been reading about this on other sites. Even the straight community knows he’s a predator of young teens. The consensus is that this if more then just being absent.

Wouldn’t it be rich after all this crap with Spacey, Weinstein, etc if the king of them all skated on by. We all know he’s guilty as f*ck.
