Another day, another closeted gay businessman blackmailed on a gay sex app.
31-year-old David Cox has been charged with extortion, a third-degree felony, after allegedly threatening to send naked photographs to the wife and business partners of a Minnesota businessman.
According to court records, Cox and the businessman met on Adam4Adam in the wee early morning hours of May 30. They arranged to hookup at the Marriott hotel in the Key Bank Tower in downtown Cleveland.
The businessman told police that he was in town for work. After chatting with Cox on the dating app, he gave him his phone number and hotel room number.

Three hours passed before Cox arrived. When he finally showed up, the businessman told police that Cox “was nothing like the pics he showed me on the site.” When he said was no longer interested in hooking up, Cox refused to leave and instead went into the bathroom then came out naked.
Despite the businessman’s misgivings, the two men “engaged in a consensual sex act.” At some point, the businessman “became unnerved” and said he no longer wanted to continue with the encounter.
“I was scared,” he told police. “I acted like I was [okay] with everything and finally said stop, no more.”
Then things got really weird.
Cleveland.com reports:
The man told police he gave Cox $40 after Cox said he had bought drugs. The Minnesota man said he didn’t want any and told Cox to leave.
Cox left but later called the man and demanded $50. The man refused, but Cox returned to the hotel room about 5 a.m. May 31 and demanded $20 for parking, according to police.
Later that day, Cox called and emailed the man demanding more money. The man told police he paid Cox $270.
But it didn’t stop there.
On June 5, Cox threatened to post photos of the businessman to his unsuspecting wife’s Facebook page, as well as email all his clients, unless he sent him $1,500. Then he sent the businessman a PayPal money request.
That’s when the businessman finally went to police.
According to court documents, Cox was convicted of aggravated theft in 2010 after stealing $800 from an old lady. He was sentenced to two years probation, but violated the terms and ended up serving a year in prison.

Glad the authorities caught this thief and extortionist. It was a bad sign when he basically got off with a slap on the wrist for stealing $800 from an elderly woman, but now he’s potentially destroyed this DL man’s life and stolen money him, so come on, courts, lock him up for the maximum amount of time this felony conviction allows. If you don’t, he’ll harm someone else as soon as he gets out.

Extortion is wrong and horrible regardless, but pardon me if I don’t feel bad for a “DL” man’s life being “ruined” because he lies about who he is to his wife and got caught with his pants down.

@Crystix, gotta say, I’m with you on this one. Why the hell is this even still a thing in this day and age? You know who’s life is ruined? The wife’s life. She is in a fake sham marriage with a man who isn’t who he pretends to be and doesn’t really love her in the way that she deserves. These closeted men in straight marriages *nowadays* really piss me off. I have more sympathy for the ones who did it in earlier times…but NOW?

There are a lot of reasons people are DL, beginning with societal homophobia, cultural and religious upbringing, and so on, and you don’t know a thing about this man other than what’s being reported, so let’s drop this holier than thou attitude. DarkZephyr, I respect your posts, so I’ll just say that we don’t know anything about this couple’s marriage, thus I’m not going to call it a “fake sham” one. And yes, in 2018, there are people who for a variety reasons are still not comfortable coming out. I mean, does anyone seriously think that there is not a single gay or bi man actively playing in the NFL, NBA, NHL, or MLB? Some of them are married! There are reasons people are DL, even today. I’m out, I urge everyone to come out, but I also understand why some people are still in the closet. Homophobia is real, even today.

You can find all kinds of excuses for why this DL man didn’t come out, Kangol but this is not about the fact that this unhinged man hides in the closet. The truth of the matter is, what he did is wrong and wrong. You can’t pretend it to be right when you know what you are doing is wrong.

You all should read the actual article by Cleveland.com. It has a different feel and is less about a closeted married business man. In truth, he being closeted as the article notes is unknown. So in truth he may have an arrangement with his wife. Typical manipulated journalism here.
